Sarah Patricia Jay (Frye) Grant
October 27, 1944 - December 13, 2021
Raleigh, North Carolina - Sarah Patricia Jay (Frye) Grant, 77, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2021 in Raleigh, NC. Pat was born on October 27, 1944 in Greenville, SC, daughter of Jerome and Hazel Pitman Jay.
She attended Winthrop College, University of Alabama and University of Arkansas to earn a B.S. in Education and later attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania for graduate work. Pat was a Vice President and Financial Advisor with Morgan Stanley for 25 years until her retirement in 2008.
Prior to her career she served as Treasurer for the Officer's Wives Club at Eglin Air Force Base near Fort Walton Beach, Florida and as a member of the Junior League of Decatur, Alabama. Pat was a lifelong learner and an avid reader who loved playing bridge, entertaining, collecting art and antiques, interior decorating, traveling the world with her friends and husband and especially spending time with family at Hilton Head Island, SC. Pat was a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh.
Pat is survived by her husband, Dr. Hugh Grant, her two daughters Caroline Frye Burruss and former husband Jefferson Burruss and their children Henry and Sally of Austin, TX and Ashley Frye Pharr and husband Allan Pharr and their son Christopher of Raleigh, NC. Also surviving is her sister Jerrie K. Jay of Columbia, SC, her brother Jerome K. Jay, Jr. and wife Gina Jay of Greenville, SC. She was a doting Grandmother and she treasured her friends and her large extended family including beloved step-children and step-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pat was predeceased by her former husband Ted L. Frye of Raleigh and her dear sister Anne V. Brady of Greenville, SC.
The family would like to thank so many who provided care for Pat: including Rex Hematology and Oncology Associates, the highly professional and dedicated staff of the Cypress, Rosewood, Transitions LifeCare and especially her home care hospice team Lisa Ginsburg, RN,OCN and Shemetris Gales, CNA who provided expert compassionate care and allowed us to spend more time with Mom which we deeply appreciate.
Services will be held on Wednesday, January 5th at 2:00 pm at White Memorial Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service in Pickard Hall. The family asks that all who attend please wear a mask. The service will also be available via live stream and can be found at www.whitememorial.org/livestream.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville, SC or Hospice of Wake County: Transitions Lifecare in Raleigh, NC.
