Raleigh

Scott D. "Stump" DeShields, 53, died on June 23, 2016.

He is survived by his wife Katrina, daughter Colby, and son Jake, and the family, friends, and athletes whom he mentored and inspired on and off the field.

Whether you called him Scott, Dad, Stump, or Coach, if you had a relationship with Scott DeShields, you knew the passion and intensity that he demonstrated in his life and expected from others, especially his athletes.

Family and friends will be gathering to remember him on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Ravenscroft School in the Finley Athletic Center from 5-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to RUFF (Rescue Ur Forever Friend) would be appreciated.

I was so saddened to hear of Coach's passing. What an amazing man who motivated and shaped so many young lives. There are one-on-one conversations I shared with him that I'll never forget, a full 20 years later. He will be sorely missed!

Dearest Katrina, Colby and Jake,
I am so devastated to hear about your Husband and Father.
I want Colby and Jake to know how much I admire Katrina and I know she will be there for you all as you try to come to terms with the passing of your Daddy. To me She was one in a million and I am sure she is Everything to You All.
My deepest sympathies. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love,
Carolyn

I'm very sad to hear about Scott! He loved the game of football and was a great motivator with the kids he coached...passion & enthusiasm were his coaching style! He has left a lasting impression on ALL of his players and guys he coached with! He'll be missed by many.
