Sherilyn Adams Obituary
She was born July 11, 1991, and lived an amazing and joyful life. Sherilyn spent nearly five years fighting leukemia, and we are comforted to know that Sherilyn is now happily in the arms of Jesus.
Sherilyn attended Millbrook High School where she loved singing in the choir. She was an incredibly talented artist with a strong love for family, tradition, beach and mountain vacations and home cooking. She had a gentle, loving and generous spirit, and always thought of others before herself. Her courageous battle has brought many people together in prayer and love, and as a result, her spirit will live on forever.
Sherilyn's family is so grateful to the many people and organizations who have offered so much love and support over the years. Thank you to the caring staff at Duke, including Dr. Philip Rosoff and Dr. Paul Martin, and the many wonderful nurses who took such special care of Sherilyn. A special thank you goes to friends and family members who helped care for Sherilyn's siblings over the years.
Sherilyn is survived by her mother, Laura Hanson Adams; her father, Tony and her step-mother Mari; her sister, Veronica, who shares Sherilyn's rare diagnosis of AML; her sister Nicollette; her brother Dustin; her half-brother Drew; and many grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, all of whom she loved dearly.
Sherilyn is also survived by her bone marrow donor, Steve Fox and his wife, Carolyn, who came to know and love Sherilyn since her transplant. Steve selflessly donated his bone marrow to Sherilyn in 2005, giving her three years of happy memories her family will cherish forever. Her youngest cousin, Sabrina Sherilyn, born on Sherilyn's 16th birthday, will carry her name and spirit into the next generation.
A celebration of life service will be 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 27 at Grace Community Church, 6561 Meridien Dr. in Raleigh. The family will receive guests after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Sherilyn Adams Memorial Fund held at the North Ridge BB&T, 6659 Falls of Neuse Rd. Raleigh, NC 27615, to support the Child Life Program at Duke; or to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Sherilyn Adams Memorial Fund at 401 Harrison Oaks Blvd. Suite 200 Cary, NC 27513, to fund AML research.
Arrangements were made by the Cremation Society of the Americas. Online condolences can be made at www.cremnc.com

I still remember the Sunday that Sherilyn's mom first requested prayers for her at Asbury UMC. I was so touched and spoke to her after the service. I prayed for her many times after that day. Please know how sorry I am for your loss and that I will continue to pray for peace, healing and comfort for the whole family.

I would like to send a lot of blessings to the family of Sherilyn and even if I didn't know her in person which I wish I would have since I'm also a student of Millbrook High, just with reading her tough life it defiantly shows she looked at it as a positive way and she is in better hands now. She will be missed. She will never be forgotten in our school or in any classroom.

During her all-too short years, Sherilyn provided inspiration - she and Veronica were why I signed up to be on the marrow/tissue donor registery - and was a wonderful example of faith, hope and courage. Sherilyn, you have been given Angel's Wings and are now at peace with the Lord. While away this week, I had your same school picture with me and I talked to you over it a number of times.
