Sue Morgan Denny died May 17, 2006 at River Landing in Colfax, NC.
Born July 18, 1910 to Flora and Moses Morgan, she grew up in Farmer, NC in Randolph County. She was graduated from Farmer High School and High Point College.
In 1935, she married Zeb R. Denny from Pilot Mountain, and they lived inRoanoke Rapids, where both were educators in the public schools. Sue taught English and French for many years and completed her career as librarian at Roanoke Rapids High School. During her many years in Roanoke Rapids, she was active in the First Presbyterian Church, where she was president of the Women of the Church, and an elder. She worked with Roanoke Rapids Mission andserved as a volunteer at the hospital. She enjoyed writing about her Morgan family, and she has won awards for her essays andstories. After moving to the Presbyterian Home in High Point in 1980, she joined Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, where she was an active member. She continued her writing and initiated writing groups at the home.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents and all of her eight siblings and their spouses, her husband's siblings and their spouses, and daughter-in-law.
She is survived by her two daughters, Flo Ellen Denny Durway and her husband, Dan, Raleigh, NC, Sue Morgan Denny Madsen and her husband, Jim, Lexington, NC; and her son, Stephen Joel Denny, Richmond, VA. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Mark Durway (Julie), Asheville, NC, Kristin Durway Degnim, Chapel Hill, NC, Lindsay Durway, St. Louis, MO, John Madsen, San Antonio, TX, Emily Madsen, Silver Spring, MD, and Rachel Madsen, Chapel Hill, NC. In addition, she is survived by three great-grandchildren in Asheville, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Sechrest Funeral Home on Lexington Ave., in Highpoint, on Friday night, May 19 from 6-8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church with The Reverend Joe Blankinship officiating. Burial will be Saturdayafternoon at 4 p.m. in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with The Reverend Dr. Daniel L. Durway officiating.
