Thomas Amick Obituary

Carter, age 30, showed incredible courage and humor throughout his life and in his battle with melanoma until his death on February 8, 2006 at his family's home in Chapel Hill, NC.
Carter was born in Durham, North Carolina on March 31, 1975, the son of Larry and Kaye Amick. After attending Durham Academy, he went on to earn a BA in History from UNC-Charlotte. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity and a history buff, particularly interested in American Civil War history as well as the preservation of historic sites and homes.
In 2002 Carter married his high school sweetheart Anna Halme; the couple settled in Charlotte, NC where they both worked for Homecomings Financial. Carter and Anna enjoyed traveling to Finland, the Florida Keys, and camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Carter loved the outdoors and was wonderful with children, particularly his beloved nieces and nephews.
Carter is survived by his wife, Anna; his sisters, Scottie and Katie Ryan; his brother, Seton; his parents, Larry and Kaye Amick; his in-laws, Jouko, Pirkko and Orvokki Halme; his much-loved dogs, Shelby and Jed; and a host of family and friends. His clever wit and enduring optimism served to enrich all of our lives; we miss him and will cherish is memory dearly.
A private memorial service will be held in Chapel Hill, NC at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in Carter's name to the Melanoma Research Foundation at www.melanoma.org (1-800-MRF-1290) or the American Cancer Society.
