Thomas Massingale Obituary

Dr. Thomas Glenn Massingale, 52, of Stanfield, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, 11:00 a.m., at Duke Medical Center after an eight-year battle with heart disease.
Hewas born May 13, 1954, in Columbia, SC to parents, Furman B. Massingale, Jr., who preceded him in death, and Mary Walsh Massingale. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Furman Walsh "Bo" Massingale.
Surviving are his wife, Melinda Johnson Massingale and a son, Tyler Thomas Massingale, both of the home; his mother, Mary Walsh Massingale of Fayetteville, NC; father and mother-in-law, Raymond and Emma Lou Johnson; brother-in-law, William Johnson and wife, Sherry; nephews, Travis Johnsonand Adam Johnson, all of Cary, NC; a niece, Candice Johnson of Wilmington, NC; cousins, Elaine M. Gallup of Columbia, SC, Kathy M. Stanton of Greenville, SC and Walter Hammond Massingale of Augusta, GA; and a host of friends.
He attended the Fayetteville City Public schools, graduated with honors, and was a nominee for the Morehead scholarship.
Dr. Massingale practiced dentistry for 20 years in Locust, NC, having received his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry at UNC-Chapel Hill and his Doctor of Dental Surgery at UNC-Chapel Hill, School of Dentistry. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi fraternity and Psi Omega Dental fraternity, a member of the American Dental Association, and a member of the third district Stanly County Dental Society. He retired December 1999 due to declining health.
He was a member of the Board of Directors for First Citizens Bank in Albemarle, NC for 15 years as well as past mayor and council member of Stanfield, NC. He served on numerousother boards and committees over the years.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 10, from 6-8 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland, NC.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Locust, where he was a member, Tuesday, July 11th at 11:00 a.m.; officiating, Dr. Kinney Wallace. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland will be serving the Massingale family.
