Wayne Stone Obituary

Wayne Gilbert Stone

March 7, 1952 - February 24, 2018

Durham

Wayne Gilbert Stone (65) was welcomed into the loving arms of the Lord on February 24, 2018. Wayne was born on March 7, 1952 in Durham, North Carolina to Margaret Fearrington Stone and the late Clifton Isaiah Stone.

Wayne graduated with honors from Chapel Hill High School. He attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. His first job took him to Massachusetts where, through a friend, he met his future wife, Patricia Elaine Schmoke.

Wayne and Pat were married at St. John's Congregational Church in Springfield, Massachusetts on November 11, 1977. Their covenant of oneness spanned 40 years. Wayne's career relocated the couple to six different states. Along the journey, they formed valuable friendships.

Wayne served in a variety of managerial procurement roles. He worked for Clariant Corporation (formerly Hoechst Celanese) for over twenty years. Upon his retirement from Kinder Morgan in 2016, Wayne and Pat moved back to North Carolina to be closer to his mother, brothers and relatives.

His lifelong walk with the Lord included leading a small group study, and serving as chief financial officer of Journey Christian Church in Louisiana. At Journey both Wayne and Pat were also part of the Bus Ministry, where they provided transportation to and from church for worshippers.

Wayne's quiet nature, love and caring of his family, his kindness, leadership, and generosity will be missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.

Wayne leaves to cherish precious memories his devoted wife, Patricia Elaine Schmoke Stone; his mother, Margaret Fearrington Stone; three brothers: Harold Lee (Cynthia), William Bernard and Arnold Kelvin; three aunts: Bettie Fearrington, Mary Hubbard (William), and Nellie Evans; two uncles: Eddie Fearrington Jr., and Zeb Evans, Jr. (Edna); one niece: Surina Stone, one great niece and nephew; Natalya Murray and Camren Carson and a host of relatives and friends.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I knew Wayne for over 25 years. Our paths first crossed when he was working at Hoescht Celanese, later at Siemens and then Kinder Morgan. Wayne had a heart of gold, an enormous appetite for learning and a wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed dearly by us all.

Wayne was my boss here in Charleston SC. Wayne was a really good man and good boss. I am shocked and saddened by the news of his passing.

His love for the North Carolina Tarheels and all things Chapel Hill were second only to his wife Miss Pat.
Wayne and I were avid Dallas Cowboy's fans and I will miss our discussions on our mutual disappointment with the Cowboys and what we would do to make the team better.

Miss Pat, I am so so sorry for your loss.
