William D. "Bill" Bunce

William Dean "Bill" Bunce, of Fayetteville, went to heaven on Wednesday, August 26, 2009. He was born June 6, 1933 in Wade, North Carolina to the late Purdie and Ethel Bunce. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joanne McGill Bunce; a daughter, Amy Bunce of Fayetteville; two sons, Dean Bunce and wife, Gail Bunce of Apex, North Carolina, and Alex Bunce of Fayetteville; a son-in-law, Danny Jones of Hayesville, North Carolina; two brothers, Jack Bunce and wife, Mary Bunce of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and Jimmy Bunce and wife, Carol Bunce of Raeford, North Carolina, two sisters, Inez Barbour and husband, Lowell Barbour of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Mary Lou Burgess and husband, Bill Burgess of Hilton Head, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Lindsay and Whitney Vickers of Los Angeles, California, Joshua, Daniel and Rebecca Jones of Hayesville, North Carolina and Liza, Billy and Alison Bunce of Apex, North Carolina. Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Joey Bunce Jones of Hayesville, North Carolina. Bill was an active member of MacPherson Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years and is an elder emeritus. He served as youth leader (along with Joanne) for many years and as a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 771. Bill is an alumnus of North Carolina State University and is a retired Resident Engineer for the North Carolina Department of Transportation and a Professional Surveyor. Bill was a long serving member of the Seventy-First Ruritan Club and the Fayetteville Sail and Power Squadron. He was a private pilot and enjoyed fishing, traveling and helping others. The family will receive friends at MacPherson Presbyterian Church from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2009. Funeral services will be conducted at MacPherson Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2009, with Rev. Dr. James Randall and Rev. Dr. John Y. Todd, III, officiating.
