William Maynard Obituary

William Quinton Carlyle Maynard

Raleigh

William Quinton Carlyle Maynard died on Friday, September 15 after living a life that amazed people on a daily basis, and touched people in countless ways. He was, as always, surrounded by loved ones, and spent his last night laughing and joking, asking the nursing staff how their night was going, and looking ahead to his next treatment with hope and optimism.

Quinton was born in Raleigh, and spent his childhood riding horses and developing his extraordinary talent for the violin. He was accepted to the Peabody Conservatory of Music at age 16, and became an accomplished soloist. Quinton also attended Skidmore College and graduated with a degree in philosophy and religion. After traveling in India, he received his MBA from Kenan Flagler Business School at UNC-Chapel Hill. Business became a great passion of Quinton's and he greatly enjoyed his time working in finance in New York, as well as starting and building Morehead Capital after returning to NC. His most inspiring business role was that of CEO and Chairman of Investors Management Corporation.

While business was a driving force in Quinton's life, his greatest love and source of joy was his wife, Jesse, and the family they created together. His devotion to Jesse and their two sons, Allen and Benny, knew no bounds and he delighted in the countless ways they enjoyed their time together. Jesse provided him with the greatest comfort and care possible during his illness, and their love only grew stronger as the years passed.

Quinton is survived by his parents, James and Connie Maynard, who were unwavering in their devotion to him throughout his life, and with him through every step of his illness. He is also survived by his sister and next door neighbor, Easter Maynard, who adored her little brother, and was humbled to have been a part of his care team. His niece and nephews, Lila, James, and Sawyer, had a rare connection with their uncle and were deeply influenced by the time they spent with him.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the many amazing health care professionals who helped Quinton during his illness. Dr. Mark Graham of Cary provided constant and dedicated care in North Carolina, and was devoted to helping any time, in any way. It is impossible for the family to adequately express their appreciation to Dr. Vinod Ravi at MD Anderson in Houston. He provided expert care for Quinton's type of cancer, but most importantly, he provided friendship, hope and joy. Dr. Ravi's gift for healing, combined with Quinton's unfailing positivity, gave us years with Quinton that we otherwise would not have had. For that we always will be grateful.

Quinton lived with an enthusiasm and appreciation for life that was a rare gift. Because of him, we all experienced more joy and the world became a more beautiful place.

A memorial service will be held at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd., in Raleigh at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 22. The family will receive friends following the service at White Memorial.

In lieu of flowers, Quinton asked that people consider a contribution to the World Pediatric Project, Att: Sue Farley, 7201 Glen Forest Drive, Suite 304

Both of our older children, David and Jeanne, remember Quinton and, of course, Easter, from Ravenscroft days. They were deepened sadly to hear of his passing and had relied on my promise to post a condolence for the family. I thought I had done this but somehow it does not appear.

Quinton was a good and able man. Sincere condolences to all the family in this loss.

Dear James, Connie, Easter, his family and his friends,
My love and prayers are with you in your loss of Quinton. My heart aches for you as I remember Quinton. I have so many wonderful memories of his love of life and his immense enthusiasm and appreciation. Looking back I was one of his fifth grade teachers at Ravenscroft, his Language Arts teacher. I smile as I remember Quinton as he truly loved our classroom interaction and loved every moment of participation!! Quentin could have taught our class as a fifth grader!! One of my next great memories was when Quinton asked me if he could play my Amati violin. I could not have been more proud as he went on to Peabody Conservatory and excelled as a soloist on my violin. I have wonderful memories of Quentin and am so proud of the young man he became. I am so sorry for your loss and will remember Quentin with a smile of love. Quinton's enthusiasm and love of life will live on in his family, his friends and his boys. All our love, Joan MacNair Petty and daughter Cam Womble and son Morgan Womble
