Justice Whichard was exactly the type of person we need in politics these days. He was rather quiet but when he spoke everyone listened. I never heard him say a negative word about anyone. He saw only the good in everyone. He had an unusual sense of humor! I served on several boards with him and always suggested he be sent a copy of the meeting's minutes so he could make the corrections which we knew he would find before the meeting. Thanks to his family for sharing him with so many worthy and important causes. He will be missed but his memory lives on through the many programs and projects he supported and led. To have served in the NC House and NC Senate and as a member of the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of North Carolina is quite an accomplishment. We need more "Bill Whichard's" in public service these days.
