Christian Schwebler Obituary

Schwebler, Christian
Christian Schwebler, of Bethel passed away in his sleep on February 3, 2013. Christian was born in Feketich, Yugoslavia of the late Phillip and Maria Huber Schwebler. He emigrated to the United States in 1950. In 1951, Christian was inducted into the Army of the United States of America. It was when he was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany that U.S. Army Corporal, Christian would meet his wife, Renate. He had weekend leave, when he attended a dance and met his sweetheart. The two later married in Lützelsachen, Germany in 1954. In 1955, they moved to Bethel, Connecticut, where they made their home and raised four children. It was a love story that would span over 50 years as husband and wife. Christian was a talented craftsman, wood carver, painter, restorer of antiques, and violinmaker. He was someone that enjoyed the work he did, but he also felt great satisfaction that he was able to make a living doing what he enjoyed. He was proud to have built his home, and years later his workshop, a beautiful A-frame made of stone and wood with large windows overlooking his home. One of Christian's most well known and largest carvings is the life size camel he built for the centennial year 1976 that was commissioned for the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. He was a modest and humble man. People that knew Christian said that he was a kind gentleman. He was soft spoken, thoughtful, and a loving husband and father. Christian enjoyed being with his family, having good conversation on the weekends, and going to flea markets with Renate. He loved listening to music, and it wasn't unusual to see him dancing with Renate in the cozy living room of their home. Christian is predeceased by his wife and love of his life, Renate, in 2009. He is also predeceased by his sister, Marie Brauchler and brother, Philip Schwebler. He will be sadly missed by his sons, Hans and Gerhard; daughters, Heidi and Christine, daughter-in-law Patricia Schwebler; son-in-law John Visuano; sister Elizabeth Kuehn; brother-in-law Gerhard, brother-in-law Wilfried and wife, Edith. sister-in-law Charlotte Schwebler; Nephews Giselher, Gernot, and Christian and wife, Daniela. Nieces Gerlinda, Edeltraud, and Sandra. grandchildren Christian, Michael, Elise, Hannah, Jane, Sabina and Mia and close friends Ludwig and Herta.
A private gathering for family and friends will be held at a future place and time. The Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury, is handling arrangements. Information and on-line condolences at Hullfuneralservice.com.

This announcement came up in my email today. Over a decade has passed since you went to be with our Lord, to be with Renate and joined by Hans just a few short years later. I look forward to seeing you all again in the Glory of God and with his Son Jesus. I enjoy thinking of you all and that time in my life. I have such wonderful memories. God Bless you all, I will see you in eternity!

Seems like just a few weeks ago I peeked inside the camel your Father, your family carved for the Smithsonian, where all your initials are carved. Your father is in better place now and he left Bethel a better place as well. May God Almighty bless your family now and forever.

Hans, Gerhard, Heidi and Christine, May your Father rest in peace with your Mom and may you keep your memories of them both for a life time of reflection and comfort. I loved and respected both of them tremendously. I so enjoyed the last time I visited and got to speak with vater. I especially liked his reaction when I made dinner for him and the family. He was a happy camper that night! Very precious. Love you all, Bob

Hans: We are terribly sorry to hear of your father's passing. And of your mother's as well. We knew both and used to enjoy our conversations.
We have had your father execute many projects in wood, and were tremendously pleased with his work, and envious of his skills. We once gave him an old violin, which had been my father's. We hope he had time to work on it. It was our gift to him. We hope that you can carry on his work, if only in his memory. We think that he would have liked that. We are sorry that we lost contact with your father. We still say "That's a job for Mr. Schwebler." And we remember your mother as a beautiful woman. Two great losses. It's a double loss for us. Every time we drive past his house we think of them, and wish they were back. Greatest condolences to all of your family.
