Whitlock, Sr., Gilbert
Gilbert Raymond Whitlock, Sr., age 88 of Bethel, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Regional Hospice Center, Danbury surrounded by loving family. He was the husband of Regina (Santuro) Whitlock.
Gibby was born February 26, 1928 in Danbury, the son of the late Ellsworth J. and Josephine (Babiyan) Whitlock. He was a lifelong resident of Bethel. Following graduation from Bethel High School, class of 1945, he served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Barden Corp, Berol Corp and Easton Redding Public Schools prior to retirement.
In addition to his beloved wife of 66 years, he is survived by his children: Regina and her husband George Bachman of Southbury, Gilbert Jr. of Collinsville, Mary Jo and her husband Michael Walsh of Bethel, Jennifer of Bethel and daughter-in-law Anna Karin Strinnholm Whitlock of Sweden. He was the proud grandfather of Jonathan and Melanie Bachman; Jason, Ashley and Anthony Whitlock; Zachary Whitlock; Maya and Emelie Strinnholm Whitlock; and great grandchildren Avery and Holland Whitlock. He was predeceased by his son, Brian E. Whitlock and his brother, Ellsworth J. Whitlock Jr. He will be sadly missed by cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends.
Gibby (also known as Ace) most enjoyed spending time with his family at home and always looked forward to beach vacations in Rhode Island. He loved all animals, especially dogs. A sports enthusiast, Gibby was an avid Yankees and Giants fan. He played softball for many years on several Rogers Park League teams and was known throughout the area. He also loved marching bands and local parades. He was a charter member of the Grassy Plain Drum Corp and was awarded several medals and was the youngest Ct State Fife Champion which he continued for many years. He was a member of St. Mary Church, Bethel all his life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, Bethel on Monday July 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.
Family will receive friends at St. Mary Church prior to the Mass from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Regional Hospice and Home Care Center, 30 Milestone Rd., Danbury, CT 06810.
