Joseph Fiorita Obituary

Joseph A. Fiorita, Jr.
Joseph A. Fiorita, Jr., 77, of Danbury, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 7, 2021. He was the devoted husband of Sally Brown Fiorita and father of Jill Vitti (Paul) of Brookfield, CT and David Fiorita (Marian) of Jamison, PA.
Joe was born in Hartford on May 4, 1944 to Joseph Fiorita, Sr and Marie (Fiore) Fiorita. He attended St. Joseph School in Danbury and graduated in 1963 from Danbury High School where he played football and served as class Treasurer.
Joe earned his BS degree in Accounting from Mount Saint Mary's College, Emmitsburg, MD and returned to Danbury where he began his career as a Jr. Accountant with Walter Larsen. After attaining his CPA license, he opened his own accounting firm on Deer Hill Avenue in 1973 where it continues to provide financial advice to clients as Fiorita, Kornhaas, and Company.
From an early age, Joe had a keen sense of business and an unmatched entrepreneurial spirit; having the largest paper route in the city of Danbury, running private parties at Carol's Barn and partnering in the popular Danbury restaurants, Zadoc's Cafe and Benedict's Cafe.
Joe also had a passion for building and a talent for design. He oversaw the construction of many beautiful buildings and homes.
Joe was a member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA) and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He served on the Board of Directors of Photronics Inc, (NASDAQ) for over 30 years and acted as Chairman of the Audit Committee and Member of the Compensation Committee. He served as an advisory board member of various closely held companies and charitable organizations. Prior appointments include; Board of Directors of Danbury Bank and Trust, Advisory Board of Directors of Connecticut Bank & Trust, New England Bank & Trust, UST Bank, former member of the Parking Authority of the City of Danbury, Ridgewood Country Club, Danbury Yacht Club and Corporator for Newtown Savings Bank.
Joe was a generous, loyal man who valued his relationships and enjoyed the camaraderie of numerous lifelong friends, many dating back to his elementary and high school years.
Besides his wife and children, he leaves behind a brother, Frank Fiorita (Ellie) of Danbury, CT; cherished grandchildren: Joseph, Michael, and Juliana Vitti and Nicole, Elise, and David (DJ) Fiorita; mother-in-law Mary Lou Brown; sisters-in-law Nancy Brown and Patricia Brown; a nephew, Gary Fiorita (Katrina); as well as nieces Jennifer and Mary Beth Brown; numerous cousins, and very special friends he considered family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at St. Joseph Church, Danbury with the Rev. Samuel V. Scott, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
Contributions in Joe's memory would be greatly appreciated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or to Ability Beyond, 4 Berkshire Blvd., Bethel, CT 06801 or Special Olympics Connecticut, 2666 State St., #1, Hamden, CT 06517.

I’ve worked for Joe for over 26 years. You get to know a lot about a person after 26 tax seasons together. Anyone who has ever met Joe will never forget him. That says alot. He was so passionate about what he believed in and felt was important. If you were an employee, friend or client, you were as important to him as his family. And he cherished his family, his wife Sally, his son David and daughter Jill and his grandkids meant the world to him. I will be forever grateful for all he taught me, how much he respected, trusted and understood me. He lived a meaningful, strong life and one that will be remembered by many.
