Joseph O'Connor Obituary

O'Connor, Joseph D.
Joseph Daniel O'Connor, 88, of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Carriage Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. O'Connor served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Danbury High School in Danbury, CT and Mount Saint Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD. He retired as an operations research analyst from the Naval Surface Weapons Center in Dahlgren, VA. During his 30 years of service, he participated in radiation fallout testing; biological and chemical protective equipment for the armed forces and analyzed results of missile test launches from submarines. Mr. O'Connor was an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and volunteered in the community at St. Mary Catholic Church, Meals on Wheels and the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Julia Padrun O'Connor; his children, Joseph O'Connor, Jr. (Debbie) of Charlotte, NC, Annette Sweeney (Robert) of Ramsey, NJ, Thomas O'Connor (Joyce), Elizabeth Jarrell (James, III), Timothy O'Connor (Elizabeth) of Williamsburg, VA; and ten grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 4 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, with a rosary to be held at 5:30 p.m.
A Mass of celebration will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 5 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. O'Connor's memory may be made to Fredericksburg Area Food Bank, 3631 Lee Hill Drive, Fredericksburg, VA 22408.
