Laurie Dann Obituary

Laurie Ellen Dann Laurie Ellen Dann, 49, daughter of Barbara K. and the late Ward C. Dann, entered into eternal rest with her Savior June 18, 2008 after a long illness. Born in Danbury, Laurie was raised in Bethel, where she graduated from Bethel High School in 1976. A gifted athlete, Laurie enjoyed tennis, lettered in field hockey and track and field for the Bethel Wildcats and played on several park and recreation league softball teams. Laurie attended Thomas College in Waterville, ME, and was employed by Paint Products and Nimbus Waterbeds, both of Danbury, and most recently was assistant manager at Friendly Sunoco, in New Milford. After many years working and living in New Milford, CT, Laurie became a resident of Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford, due to numerous complications from diabetes. There she made many friends among the staff and residents, and is fondly remembered for her patience, attention and caring, despite her own health challenges. Laurie was also a patient of the Torrington DaVita Dialysis Center. Raised in the First Congregational Church of Bethel, Laurie was most recently a member of New Milford Church of Christ, where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior on June 22, 2005. Laurie was predeceased by her father: Ward C. Dann of Bethel. She is survived by her mother: Barbara K. Dann of Danbury; brother: James; sister-in-law Tuy-van Do; and nephew Stefan, all of Thornton, CO; and longtime family friend Carol Robertson. She is also survived by her beloved dog Heidi ("Hi-Ho"). She was loved throughout her lifetime by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury, Monday evening from 6 to 8pm. A memorial service will be held at New Milford Church of Christ, Rte 202, New Milford, Tuesday morning at 11:30. Private burial will be in Center Cemetery, Bethel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the White Rock Fund, C/O New Milford Church of Christ, P.O. Box 755, New Milford, CT 06776, or to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 200 Connecticut Ave, 5H, Norwalk, CT 06854.

Laurie will be missed by a great many, she was absolutely incredible and made friends easily because she was such a caring person.
The strangest thing though, last night up here in "farm country" I saw a white dove, first time ever, and I think it was sent by Laurie to let me know every thing is okay!

As a physical therapy assistant, I worked with Laurie in rehab. I will remember her for her courage and resilience. She looked outside of herself and helped so many others at CWHHC. She will truly be missed. My thoughts are with her and her family and friends.

Sincerely, Kate Kapler, PTA

I was Laurie's home care nurse for many years at home and saw her intermittently thru the years when I was at Candlewood. Laurie had a zest for life and sensitivity not found in many people. I always kidded her that she had 9 lives as she always fought so hard to live.I have no doubt she has a specail place in heaven reserved for "special" people. I will miss her smile, her warmth, and just her.
May the thoughts of people's love and prayers get you thru this difficult time.
