Paul Groner Obituary

Paul Groner Paul James "Jim" Groner of Skyline Drive, Brookfield, devoted husband of Lee (Burnett) Groner, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital with his family at his side Friday, August 28, 2009 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Anna, Ill., January 16, 1942, son of the late Paul F. and Alice (Dugan) Groner. Jim was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving stateside in Barstow, Calif. during the Vietnam War. He worked as an IT Manager for Maytag in Herrin, Ill. for many years. Jim and Lee decided to retire to Brookfield to enjoy watching their grandchildren grow. During his retirement, Jim worked part time at Walmart in New Milford as he enjoyed being busy and meeting new people. An avid golfer, he enjoyed playing in the Senior Golf League at Richter Park. He was also a dedicated Yankee Fan, UConn Basketball Fan as well as countless other sports. He was happiest spending time with his family, and being "Papaw" to his three grandchildren. He never missed one of their sporting events or activities. In addition to his be-loved wife of 44 years, Lee, he will be sadly missed by his daughter, Cheryl Oberndorfer and her husband, Kyle of Brookfield; his son, Todd Groner Kopriva and his wife, Sand of Seattle, Wash.; and his three cherished grandchildren, BJ, Devin, and Karlee Oberndorfer. He will also be greatly missed by his nephew, Gary Rothschild, of Marion, Ill. In keeping with Jim's wishes, the family will celebrate his life privately. His family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and aides of the 11th Floor Oncology Unit at Danbury Hospital for the compassion and care shown to Jim and to them during this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Danbury Hospital Development Fund, Praxair Cancer Center, 24 Hospital Ave, Danbury, CT 06810. Dear Lee, Cheryl, Kyle, BJ, Devin and Karlee,

Jim was very blessed to have such a wonderful family. You brought him much happiness in the good times and strong support through these past difficult months.

It is wonderful that he moved here to be with those he loved. We enjoyed getting to know him and sharing special memories at sporting events, recitals and celebrations. We even had fun having him help us and ring us up at Walmart!

Please remember how much you are loved, now in this difficult time, and always.

Dear Lee, your call floored myself and vickie when hearing about Jim. I had not spoken to him in some months but was expecting a call about your annual fall trip to S.Ill to get together to play some golf. I am struggling to find the right words to express our sympathy to you and your family-Jim was one of my dearest friends during our time in S.Ill and after. Even though we have been gone for over 20+ years,we aleays found a way to get together for golf and maybe a cocktail or two every year since we have been gone. We are so sorry;it is a great loss for all who knew Jim and those of us who were lucky to call him friend.

Lee, Cheryl, Kyle, BJ, Devin and Karlee: Words just can't express how sorry we are. Every time we saw Jim he had something funny to say and a smile on his face. Whenever a discussion turned to his grandchildren, his face would light up with pride and joy. It was always fun discussing our "Yankees" with him as well. His grandchildren and family were everything to him and I know he will be around in spirit for all the ball games, dance recitals in the years to come. xxoo Kathi, Bill, Kyle and Sean
