Katherine Alice (McNitt) Brown, 85, of Peru, formerly of Oglesby, passed away unexpectedly Friday, December 3, 2021 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Prey-Mueller Funeral Home, Oglesby with Rev. Jeremy Lueck, pastor of Oglesby Union Church officiating. Burial will follow in Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be 9-11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brown was born November 29, 1936 in Oglesby to Estyl and Estele (Waite) McNitt. She married Louis M. Brown on November 17, 1956 in the parsonage of Oglesby Union Church.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Oglesby Union Church where she was active in the women's Bible study and was a Sunday School teacher. She worked as a registered nurse having completed the nursing program at Illinois Valley Community College and received her Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of St. Francis. Mrs. Brown enjoyed sewing, knitting, crafting and was an avid reader. She was also active in the Oglesby Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and served as president.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth (Sandra) Brown of Cherry, Glenn (Cindy) Brown of Joliet and Brian (Paula) Brown of Princeton; a son-in-law, Charles Weir of Granville; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis on January 30, 2002; her daughter, Karen Weir; a great-grandson, Joshua Brown in infancy and her brother, Gerald McNitt.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Brown Jr., Nicholas Brown, Daniel Brown, Ben Brown, Stephen Rundle and Jeff Rundle.
