Virginia Rowland Schoeb

Died: September 2, 2022 in Bloomington, IL

Virginia Mary (Rowland) Schoeb, 82, of Peru, passed away Friday, September 2, 2022 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington after a brave battle with cancer.
A prayer service will be held 11:30 AM Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru followed by Mass of Christian Burial 12:00 PM at St. Joseph's Church, Peru with Rev. Gary Blake, pastor, officiating. Private burial will follow at a later date at St. Joseph's Cemetery, River Grove. Visitation will be held 10:00-11:30 AM Saturday, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Schoeb was born March, 9, 1940 in Chicago to Charles and Dorothy (Prosser) Rowland. She married Joseph H. Schoeb on June 13, 1964 in Chicago, IL. Virginia received her MS from Mundelein College (1961) and her PhD in Chemistry from Iowa State University (1964). She worked for the Atomic Energy Commission while in Ames. When her family moved to LaSalle-Peru she picked up her career again after a few years. She worked for LaSalle Rolling Mills/ Zinco for many years, where she was Head of Quality Control and a part of the team instrumental in the contract with the US Mint to create the blanks for the copper plated zinc pennies. She continued to work for local manufactures in the roll as Head of Quality Control and ended her career working for Test, Inc. where she truly found joy in her professional life. She was an active member of the American Chemical Society for over 50 years.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and a great role model for working women in science. She was very active in her parish, St. Joseph's of Peru. There she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, as well as an Ecumenical Minister. She found her love of golf and quilting after retirement. She enjoyed golfing at Spring Creek and was also a member of the Covered Bridge Quilting Guild. She also loved to travel and combined this with her other loves as well as joining many of the group tours from St. Bede with Father Ron.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph; three children, Eileen (Mark R. Jones) Schoeb of Chicago, Patrick (Jonathan Norton) Schoeb of Chicago, and Joanne Taplin of Ridgway, CO; five grandchildren, Madeleine and Genevieve Jones and Colby, Sean, and Gregory Taplin; one sister, Kathleen McGovern of Lisle, IL; and four nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Bede Academy 24 W. US Hwy. 6, Peru, IL 61354 or the Cancer Research Institute.
