William C. Warnell, Jr.

Died: September 16, 2023 in Peoria, IL
William C. Warnell, Jr. 73 of LaSalle died at 11:06 p.m. September 16, 2023 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Patrick's Church, LaSalle. Rev Tom Otto will officiate. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be 9:30-11:30 a.m.Thursday in the church. Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby is in charge of arrangements.
Bill was born October 25, 1949 in Peru to William and Theresa (Legrenzi) Warnell, Sr. He married Barbara McCabe September 14, 1973 in St. Patrick's Church, LaSalle.
He was Director of Court Services for the 13th Judicial Circuit.
Bill's (Willie to family and close friends) enjoyment of extensive travel and fishing was 2nd, only to his love for his family.
Throughout his life he served his community, the County, and the State.
Bill enjoyed coaching the Dimmick Little League and later serving as the Township Supervisor for several terms.
He was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Oglesby Elks. His career included being appointed Supervisor of the LaSalle County Detention Home, and later Director of Court Services for the 13th Judicial Circuit. Throughout his 34 years with the court system, he was involved with many organizations. Some of which were: President of the Illinois Valley Chiefs of Police Association, also a member of the Illinois Police Association.
Bill served on the Advisory Board of the Illinois Department of Corrections, helped implement the Illinois Valley Peer Jury program, and the 13th Judicial Circuit Family Violence Prevention Council. AND as he liked to say, "And anything else the Chief Judge asked."
Bill started and ended his work career teaching. First in LaSalle, and after retirement as a substitute teacher in the area, where he loved to share his love of history.
He is survived by his wife Barbara of LaSalle, 2 sons; William Warnell III of Washington, MO and E.J. (Sarah Cook) Warnell of Buda, a brother Robert (Marlene) Warnell of LaSalle, 2 sisters; Mary Warnell of Oglesby and Janice Lannen of Hanna City, IL and 2 grandsons; Will and J. and a great-grandson Jeff.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Barb and family, we were so shocked to learn of Willie's passing. we were out eating with my cousin and her husband, Rick Turri and he told us, guess they went to school together.
