Johnnie Leach Obituary

Johnnie Lee Leach, 83, of Waynesboro, passed away on Thursday July 28, 2022, at Birch Gardens.

Mr. Leach was born on October 31, 1938, in Bath County, and was a son of the late Ervine Stewart and Rita Esther (Armstrong) Leach. Johnnie worked for DuPont as an electrician for more than 34 years. He was a longtime and faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Leach enjoyed hunting and fishing. He collected antique cars and loved attending antique car shows. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.

On March 3, 1962, he married the former Carol June Gum, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Leach is survived by his daughters, Teresa Fitzgerald and husband, Blaine of Mt. Sidney, and Sara Nitz and husband, James “Jay� Nitz, of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Scott Fitzgerald of Waynesboro, Amanda Fitzgerald of Waynesboro,and Logan Aguirre and husband, Pablo, of Waynesboro; great-granddaughter Sienna Aguirre; a sister, Amelia Armentrout of Covington; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ervine D. Leach and Lowell E. Leach; a nephew, Edward D. Leach; and several aunts and uncles.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday August 2, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Bill Cole officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to Valley Program for Aging Services â€" Meals on Wheels, 325 Pine Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980.
