Sara Reynolds Obituary

Sara Morris Reynolds, 71, of Greenwood, daughter of the late John H. Morris, Jr. and Estelle S. Morris of Fishersville, passed away in the company of her family at Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge in Charlottesville on August 5, 2023 following a history of chronic strokes.

Sara grew up in Augusta County. She graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in 1970 and from Madison College (now James Madison University) in 1974. She taught at Greenwood Elementary School in Albemarle County until its closure in 1984. After the death of her first husband and remarriage, Sara became a stay-at-home Mom, "chauffeuring" her daughters to music practice, ballet lessons, and caring for her aging parents and aunt and uncle.

Before her own health declined, Sara was active in numerous community groups in Augusta and Albemarle Counties, including the Stonewall Brigade Band, where she played flute, the Midway Women's Club, and the Albemarle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also volunteered on the Board of the Valley Music Academy, a nonprofit providing local youth access to music education. A long-time member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Greenwood, Sara served on the church's Endowment Board and participated in various ministries, including the Altar Guild and Mountainside. While on her High School reunion planning committee, she reconnected with her former classmate, Jim Corell. For nearly a decade, Jim was Sara's travel partner, devoted weekend companion, and more recently, helped her navigate numerous medical appointments. Sara will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her cheerfulness, love of music, and for her southern hospitality.

Sara is preceded in death by her parents, younger brother Jack, and first husband Lawrence Clarke IV. She is survived by her gentleman friend, Jim Corell; daughters, Virginia Reynolds Badgett, PhD and Tessie Elizabeth Nauman; their spouses; and three grandchildren, Autumn and Colton Nauman and Mattox Badgett.

A visitation will be held at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro on Friday, August 1, 2023 from 6 to 8 pm. Memorial services will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Greenwood at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023. The funeral will be immediately followed by a graveside service and reception in the Parish Hall. All are welcome. The Reverend John Thomas will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Emmanuel Church Endowment Fund. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Retreat at Fishersville, Shenandoah Valley Home Health, Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge, and Hospice of the Piedmont for caring for Sara with dignity and compassion.

Sara and I took piano lessons from the same teacher for many years. As our abilities grew we began to play duets, often four hands on the same piano. As we entered high school we began to play eight hand arrangements, With Sally Loving and Sally Michael, all from Wilson Memorial HS. Although I was two years older than Sara, I loved every moment I shared with Sara on the bench. She was joyful and talented and I have remembered her and her talent for almost 60 years. I know Heaven rejoiced at her arrival. Lovingly, Lynda (Brooks) Sheffer.

When I would come to visit my aunt, Sara would always have a sweet smile on her face and would want to pet and say something to my little dog. Sorry for your loss.
