George Jones Obituary

GEORGETOWN - George W. Jones, 75, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Delaware Hospice Center. He was born in Ridgley, Md., on Oct. 20, 1935, son of the late George W. Jones and Melissa Dill Jones. He was a lifelong resident of Delaware. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Randy Jones. Mr Jones retired from Verizon then later sold real estate for the Jack Lingo Realty in Rehoboth. He enjoyed hunting, fishing boating, square dancing and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed his winter home in McAllen, Texas. He was a 1952 graduate of Caesar Rodney High School. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two sons Glenn and his wife Pat of Port Ritchie, Fla., Larry and his wife Laura of Salisbury, Md.; three step-children, Steven and wife Nancy Prowett of Canton, Ga., Lori and her husband Steven Hanks of Omaha, Neb., David and his wife Lynette Prowett of Gillette, Wyo.; three grandchildren, Ben of Wilmington, Mike of Wilmington, and Leianna of Parsonsburg, Md.; seven step-grandchildren, Sunny Prowett, Kyri Prowett, Mandy Kolata, Julie MacDonald, Jesse Prowett, Jeffrey Hanks, Elizabeth Hanks; and four step great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be Sunday, March 27 at 1:30 p.m. at the Georgetown Presbyterian Church, 203 North Bedford, St. Georgetown, DE 19947. Contributions can be made to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or Sussex County SPCA, 22918 DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947. Arrangements handled by Short Funeral Services., Georgetown.
