Memorial service for Wesley Miles Lavender, 63, of Decatur will be Sunday, August 14, 2011, at 3 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Corley Carlisle officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Lavender, who died Thursday, August 11, 2011, at his residence, was born July 27, 1948, in Morgan County to Claude Wilson Lavender and Margie Lena Miles Lavender, who preceded him in death. Mr. Lavender was an Assistant District Attorney for Morgan County, a graduate of The University of Alabama, a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and a member of the Alabama Bar Association. He was a Cumberland Law School graduate and a Falkville and Somerville City Judge. He was Episcopalian and a past Decatur Country Club Golf Champion.

Survivors include one daughter, Lucy Lavender and husband, Rich Desruisseau of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Claud Lavender (Belinda) of Decatur; and one sister, Betty Weaver (Chuck) of Dickson, Tenn.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack Anderson, James Whitmire, Jim McClary, Bobby Petty, Greg Bartlett, Mike Putnam, Doug Street, Mike Adams, Thomas Whitman, and his Sigma Chi Brothers.

In lieu of flowers, make donations to Minnie Pearl Charitable Foundation/minniepearl.org or Committee on Church Cooperation at 119 1st. Ave. Decatur, AL 35601.

Peck Funeral Home is assisting the family.

All - I shared a golf story with the DHS Class of 1966. I know Wes will be remembered for many things besides golf, but I also know it was one of his favorite things. God bless you. We will remember Wes fondly. He was certainly an asset to his community.

I'm very sorry to hear about Wesley and I am remembering fondly the family and visiting them when I was very young. Everyone was so very nice to me. I think I'm the youngest cousin on the Miles side to Wesley and I was a child when my parents visited the Miles family and they visited our family. My sympathy and regards to you.
