Abram Katz Obituary

Abram Katz
Abram Eugene Katz passed away peacefully on April 20th, 2023, with his wife, son, and future daughter-in-law by his side.
Abe was born and raised in Chicago. He obtained his bachelor's degree in English at Washington University in St. Louis, and his master's degree in journalism at Boston University.
He moved to Connecticut in 1979 to begin his prolific career as Science Editor at the New Haven Register.
His Sunday column was called Gray Matters and was a weekly favorite for many readers. He interviewed well-known scholars, doctors, and scientists regarding advancements in science and technology.
He held a special ability to explain the complex inner workings of our world to the ordinary person.
His family thought he knew everything, even though he said he "didn't know anything about anything." His dry sense of humor charmed us all.
Abe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sonia Katz, and his sister Mary.
Abe was a father to Alex, husband to Marian, brother to Anna, Betsy, and Mary, brother-in-law to Jeff, Jerry, and Ray, uncle to Ben, Emma, Max, and Dana, and friend to countless more.
Published by The New Haven Register on May 3, 2023.

I was thinking about Abe today. I miss that feeling of knowing he was in the world. We worked together decades ago, but remembering him still brings a smile to my face. I would like his family to know that there are people who will never forget him.

I am sad to see this. Abe was a journalist with integrity, an unusual interviewer and a superb writer.
