AUDREY CONRAD Obituary

CONRAD, AUDREY L. Columbia, SC-Audrey Lindner Conrad, died on January 20, 2017 after suffering a stroke. Born in Middletown, CT, and raised and educated in Deep River, CT, Audrey attended the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT, graduating in 1948 with a degree in education. She met her beloved husband Paul at the University where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority and the “Sweetheart of Sigma Chi,” Paul’s fraternity. Audrey taught high school Spanish in Waynesboro, Tennessee for one year while Paul worked for the Bureau of Public Roads. She subsequently devoted herself to her family and home, raising their three daughters who grew up to become a doctor, a lawyer, and a teacher. Originally residing in Connecticut, Audrey and Paul moved to Columbia, SC in 1972, when Paul became Executive Vice President at Wilbur Smith and Associates. Audrey was a devoted Roman Catholic and enjoyed the theatre, the Saraband Dance Club, travel and cruise vacations throughout the world, playing golf at the Spring Valley Country Club, and spending time at Litchfield Beach with her husband, daughters, and grandsons. Survivors include Cynthia D. Conrad of Guilford, CT, Robin S. Conrad (Robert Kelly) of Brookeville, MD, Kristen Conrad Taylor (Terry Taylor) of Lexington, SC; her three grandsons, Andrew Conrad Taylor of Columbia, Braeden Conrad Kelly of Brookeville, MD, and Brett Lewis Taylor of Charleston (The Citadel); and her younger brother Robert H. Lindner of East Lyme, CT. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, and older brother Ernest C. Lindner of Old Saybrook, CT. The family extends sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Carroll Campbell Place. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Carroll Campbell Place, 802 Old Cherokee Rd., Lexington, SC 29072.
