David Torgerson Obituary

David Ivar Torgerson
David Ivar Torgerson, 79, of Milford, beloved husband of 56 years to Janet Torgerson, passed away on September 13, 2024. Born on January 23, 1945, in New Haven, he was the son of the late Henry and Bernice Torgerson.
David graduated from Notre Dame High School in West Haven in 1962. He proudly served in the Air Force from 1963 to 1967 as a staff sergeant and Morse code operator, earning an honorable discharge. He later achieved academic success, obtaining bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of New Haven, a testament to his dedication and hard work. David worked at Southern New England Telephone Company from 1967 to 1999.
An avid sports enthusiast, David was a loyal fan of the Red Sox and played in the Milford Men's Slow Pitch League. He was passionate about coaching youth sports, coaching all his children, and contributing countless hours to the Milford Softball Recreation League, Senior League Baseball, and the Joseph A. Foran High School Softball Team. His contributions to the community left a lasting impact on many young athletes.
David enjoyed sharing fond memories of his childhood growing up in West Haven and at Savin Rock, reflecting nostalgically on "the good old days". His favorite pastimes included gardening in his backyard (his favorite place in the world), solving crossword puzzles, playing cards with his good friends, and visiting Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods Casino over exotic vacations as he lived by the motto, "I don't ask for much".
Along with his wife, David leaves behind his children, Kenneth, Stacy, and William Torgerson; grandchildren, Zyra, Mia, Garrett Torgerson, Nerea, and Isabel Blanco; and David, Nina, Elina, and Daniel Torgerson; siblings, Marilyn Codeanne and Cathy Blair; as well as many extended family members and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Saint Agnes Church, 400 Merwin Ave., Milford (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Military honors will be conducted at the end of the service outside the church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospital of Saint Raphael Campus at www.givetoynhh.org, where the nurses on the fifth floor took excellent care of him.
