Druscilla Coleman Obituary

Druscilla Coleman
Druscilla "Dru" Colleen Coleman, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many passed on to be with our Heavenly Father on October 21, 2022; she was 67. Dru is survived by her children: Joann Dowuona-Hammond, Ziaire L. Petteway and Stanley Peter Petteway. Dru helped care for her grandchildren, Amir Dowuona-Hammond and Nyla Heyward. Dru is also survived by her sisters: Ramona Coleman-Douglas, Judith Coleman-Martin, Davida Coleman and a bonus sister, Barbara Greene. Brother-in-laws: Gregory Davis, Mark Douglas, Thomas Knox, and Romaine Martin and son in law Edward Heyward. Dru leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved very dearly.
Dru's sister, Desiree Coleman-Knox passed on to be with our Heavenly Father on October 31, 2022. The sisters are joined together in spirit. They were courageous and they were indeed fearless in their battles.
Dru was born to the late Judith S. Barnes and David Coleman on September, 21, 1955 in Newburgh, NY. The Coleman's relocated to West Haven, Connecticut where they continued to raise their 5 daughters.
After graduating from West Haven High School, Dru pursued an education at Hampton Institute. Later in life, she enrolled at The Stone Academy and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Dru cared for hospice patients throughout Connecticut and was adored by both her patients and their families.
Anyone that knew Dru could only love her; she was a colorful soul who could make anyone laugh at the drop of a dime. She was cultured and loved art. Dru could draw, write, sing, sew and absolutely loved to crochet blankets; she will be missed by the many lives that she touched.
A private "Celebration of Life" will take place amongst family. Donations can be made in Druscilla's name to the American Cancer Society. To leave a message of comfort for the Coleman family, please visit www.mcclamfuneralhome.net

I am just finding out about Drucilla's passing. I am in disbelief as we grew up as friends and two others in our circle were friends since middle until we graduated from West Haven High School in 1974. My Sista friend, may you rest in peace.

My dear sister, Dru, thank you for being our big sister, for sharing with us your artistic and creative talents. I will miss your crocheted, beautiful blankets you made for all of the family and friends. I will miss your cooking, your intellectual discussions and Saturday and Sunday mornings, sharing favorite throwback music. I will miss your beautiful songstress voice. I will hold onto our happy times we shared and when I'm sad, I will remember our bike rides, our walks and talks, having tea with you, our dear mother and sisters. I will always remember your beautiful smile and sincere laughter, thank you for all of your work and dedication to our family. I will miss your loving stories you shared of your children and adored grandchildren. Dear sister, Dru, just like the doll we all cherish when we were so young, 'big sis,' I will always love you and miss you, until we meet again and have tea with our dear mother and sister, Desi. I love you always, Judy
