Edward Sipples Obituary

Edward Joseph Sipples Jr.
September 9, 1947 - May 12, 2025
Edward Joseph Sipples Jr., 77, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, in Roseland, NJ, after a long illness.
Born to Edward and Ruth Sipples on September 9, 1947, in Wethersfield, CT, Ed was a graduate of Wethersfield High School and earned a BA in Sociology, with a Minor in Marketing, from Stonehill College in North Easton, MA, in 1969. Ed was a longtime resident of Killingworth, CT, where he lived for 45 years.
Ed had a 28-year career with Southern New England Telecommunications Corp. (SNET), where he held various leadership positions in sales. After retiring from SNET, Ed established his own consulting company, and also worked for a promotional sales company for several years.
Beyond his professional life, Ed was a dedicated public servant of his community in Killingworth. He poured his energy into making it a better place, served as Chairperson of the Park and Recreation Commission and also served on the Killingworth Zoning Board of Appeals. Ed's dedication extended to the political landscape, where he served as Chairman of the Killingworth Democratic Town Committee and he was also elected to the Killingworth Board of Finance and Board of Selectmen. For many years, he was a proud and active member of the Killingworth Lions Club, serving as a Director and embodying their spirit of service.
Ed was an avid sports enthusiast throughout his life. In his younger years, he was a proud recreational athlete who played volleyball, basketball and football. Later, he enjoyed officiating and coaching his daughter's basketball teams, playing softball for his neighborhood league, and bocce in his retirement. He was a passionate fan of UConn Women's basketball and loved watching their championship victory earlier this year.
Summer held a special magic for Ed, where he took great pride in maintaining his yard and cultivating vegetables in his garden. He also cherished weeks spent in Old Lyme at Hawk's Nest Beach. There, surrounded by his extended family, he created lasting memories crabbing, sailing, fishing, and engaging in lively games of setback and cribbage. Ed was known for his sense of humor, and while not every punchline landed, you would often leave with a smile.
Ed is survived by his loving family: daughter, Laurie DeSimone and her husband, Michael, along with their sons, Andrew and Ryan; daughter, Christine Sipples-Irizarry and her wife, Angelique Irizarry, and their son, Chase. Ed is also survived by his former wife, Regina Klimek; his three sisters: Ann Marie Isleib, Ruth Clough, and Jean Galasyn; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A Mass will be held at Christ the King Parish, at Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield, CT, on June 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill, CT.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice in Ed's name.

Ed and I played on the Bulls softball team together for several years.our team won the B division championship and eventually moved to the A Division. Great times were had by all and Ed would supply much of the humor and antics. Second base was his favorite position. Condolences to his entire family.

I worked for Ed as his secretary for a few years at SNET - He had a great sense of humor and made me laugh often. He didn´t suffer fools well, which I found admirable. So sorry for your loss.
