ELIZABETH MOHR Obituary

MOHR, ELIZABETH H. “BETSY” Elizabeth H. “Betsy” Mohr, 88, of Woodbridge, Connecticut passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2015. Betsy was pre-deceased by her husband Dr. Irving W. Mohr. Betsy was a loving and dedicated mother to Katherine Ilsa McDermott of Guilford and Judith E. Hayward of New Haven. Proud grandmother to Hannah, Aedan and Elijah McDermott and James and Jonathan Hayward. Betsy was born May 1, 1926 in Ontario, Canada. In 1948 she graduated from Kitchner-Waterloo Hospital as a registered nurse. She started her career at the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, New Jersey where she would soon meet her future husband. They later worked together at Duke University and would be married in 1953. The couple settled in Woodbridge, Connecticut in 1963. For the past 15 years Betsy worked at Hospice of Branford and in 2004 she received the Patient Advocate for Life Award from Senator Richard Blumenthal. Her greatest passion was as a loving mother and grandmother. She would spend countless hours with her grandchildren talking, reading and doing homework and was their biggest sports fan. She loved being with her daughter and her weekly trips to Guilford. As an avid reader she belonged to several book groups and was very active in her community. She was a faithful member of the Trinity Evangelical Church of Woodbridge. A Celebration of Life and Love will be held on January 28, 2015 at 8:30 am at Hospice of Branford. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to The Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford.

We have lost a special lady and gentle soul. Working with Betsy many night shifts at the Ct. Hospice was an honor and a pleasure. She dedicated her life to giving to others she nursed from the heart. I feel blessed to have shared and learned from her.

Betsy was indeed a sweet, gentle soul who took great pride in caring not only for her patients, but for her fellow nurses as well. She always had a quick smile, a kind word, and a listening ear. I am thankful that I had the privilege of knowing and working with such a wonderful woman. She will sincerely be missed!

To Betsy's family and friends;
I wish to express my deepest sympathy and prayers to all. Betsy was a bright light in the lives of so many of us that knew her at CT Hospice. She had a wonderful warm and giving spirit, always had a kind word and was generous with her time and kindness. I know I will miss her very much and have been given a wonderful gift of her friendship. Please know that she was well loved and respected and we share in your grief at such a great loss. We were so lucky to have had her pass through our lives.
