Ernest Athan Obituary

Ernest Athan
October 17, 2021
Ernest Athan, "Ernie," born June 3rd, 1927. The second of identical twins reached the age of 94, had passed away peacefully and in comfort on October 17, 2021 with his wife Vasiliki and son Steven by his side. He was born in the Town of Pazoula, State of Karditsa, Greece and Greek birth name was Anastasios Athanasiou. When Ernie migrated to the United States on May 18, 1955 and became a United States citizen on November 14, 1960, he changed his name as of that date by adopting the name of Ernest Ilia Athan. He chose to live in the City and County of New Haven, State of Connecticut. He was the son of Ilia Athanasiou and Glykeria Kalutsa. He also was the oldest of a total of 5 siblings. Starting with Maria, Vasili, Georgia, Andy, and then John. He was a Greek Christan Orthodox by religion. He married Vasiliki Georgosopoulou on March 11th, 1962 and He now leaves behind Vasiliki Athan, first son Ilia Athan and second son, Steven Athan. He chose to move down south in the warm weather and live the last years of his life in Dunedin Florida. Ernie's occupation was owner and General Contractor of Athan Construction Inc. and his education was a two-year college certificate at Eli Whitney Technical School for reading and writing blue prints for construction. Ernie was a humble, gentle, kind soul who loved his family and all that met him. He worked hard his entire life so that his family could enjoy the things he could not have growing up. His greatest happiness came when he was surrounded by his family. He recognized the importance of education and encouraged his children to attend and complete their college educations.
Old age ultimately took his life in the end, but his memories will live on in his family eternally. He leaves behind a tremendous legacy. He lived a full and great life. He was loved and will be missed dearly by his family and all that new him.
