Amie Ziner

It's been a decade, really? I still feel like I could walk into the door of the house in Short Beach, and they would be there. Zeke coming up from the basement metal shop, Feenie coming down from her writing nook overlooking the glimpse of Granite Bay. We would have coffee, talk about all kinds of things, family and friends, including those who have kindly left messages here. I'll dream about them tonight. Lots of love to you all from Amie Ziner.

It's hard to believe it's been so long -- Zeke and Feenie were bright lights in our life. We miss them.

Dear Ziners, by chance I read about Zeenie's death. I am very sad. It has been a long time since we were in contact. But there were many years when Feenie and I were close friends. She will always stay in my heart as one of the most important persons in my life. She was a wonderful person, a true mensch.

Dear Amie, Eric, Ted, Mark and Joe,
\
Feenie was a dear friend all the years we taught together at Storrs. And of course we loved your father, Zeke, as well, and miss him as much as we miss Feenie. She will always have a very special place in our hearts. Joanna and Lee Jacobus

Dear Ziners:
I had the grace and great joy of sharing a few minutes with Feenie and Zeke. We laughed, drank coffee and on several occasions ate herring on the edge of Short Beach. Every time we saw each other, Feenie and Zeke opened their hearts and extended helpful hands. They listened and laughed; and, most of all, they showed me the love they had for each other (and they always talked about the love they had for you, their children.) As job and life's turns took me to work in Willimantic -- and various stages of illness struck Feenie and Zeke, our visits ended. Two years ago, I began to ride long distances on a bicycle and learned of the route that connects Guilford green to Lighthouse Point. Once or twice a month, I roll by what remains of the house that was home to Feenie and Zeke. I always think of Zeke's bag of Eight O'Clock Coffee, Feenie's guffaw and their welcome to just another Israelite wandering with a hope of reaching the promised land. Each was such a mensch. Each was such a talent. Please accept my condolences and sympathies. Tonight, I'll crack open Within This Wilderness and be grateful for the blessing of having known Feenie.
