George Castelli Obituary

Castelli, George B.
George B. Castelli, 70, passed away unexpectedly on June 19 surrounded by family at Hartford Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Alicia (O'Brien) Castelli of Portland, CT. George is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Suzanne (Behm) Castelli of East Hampton. His son Christopher Castelli and his wife Melissa of East Hampton. His daughter Kara Aiello and her husband Matthew of East Hampton. His grandsons, Ian and Nathan Aiello. His brother Peter Castelli and his wife Sandra of Portland, his brother Daniel Castelli and wife Olenka of Portland, and his niece Kate Castelli of Cambridge, MA.
George worked very hard for his family as a pipefitter for Henkels & McCoy for over 30 years. He had a passion for fishing and was an avid outdoorsman. He looked forward to his annual trips to New Hampshire, and was able to come home with a story or two from his trip to Alaska. On the weekends you could find him taking rides with his best friend, Bill Richards or taking his wife Sue down to the shoreline for an early dinner or antique shopping.
George loved nature, the outdoors, and feeding his beloved birds. He loved spoiling his two grandsons and one visit from them would make his whole day. George left an impression on everyone he met; he was graced with the gift of gab, had an incredible sense of humor, and the ability to never forgot a name or face. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends; his great legacy will live on in all of us forever. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 23 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Cemetery Portland. Friends may call at the Portland Memorial Funeral Home 231 Main St., Portland on Friday, June 22 from 5 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association at 55 W. Wacker Drive Suite 1150 Chicago, IL 60601.

We were just laughing about a story I told how George and I were surveying homes for a project. It was bitterly cold and I had a full face mask on. George told be take it off. "these people will think your here to rob them. Get that thing off your face!! We still laugh about that.

To the Castelli family. My husband and I were so terribly sorry to hear of the passing of this great guy. I considered George my mentor. When I first came back to the gas company, it was George who patiently took the time to teach me a small fraction of his vast knowledge. He would also tell me great stories about he and Billy Richards crazy stunts as kids. He loved his family and always spoke of you all with great love and appreciation for what he had. He will be sorely missed.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Baker Fulton and Gib Fulton

Dear Sue & family, We are sorry to hear of George's passing, many laughs over the years, Richard remembers running into you down at Hurd Park walking. Then @ mcdonalds in east Hampton, when Richard told George we were moving to Vt., what a small world, we are right down the road from where your son got married in Pittsfield, Vt. George was so proud of that wedding, & we love the area too. Always hold all the memories in your heart, George has joined all the wonderful angels & is with you all every moment of your lives. Our thoughts are with you. We had a toast for George on our deck looking at the beautiful mountains, thinking of him & family! Love, Holly & Richard Stackowitz

We want to offer our sincere sympathy to the entire Castelli family we were very sad to hear of George's passing. We only met a couple of ties when we would visit Chris and Doug to replenish supplies at Uconn and we always enjoyed his sense of humor. Our warm thoughts go out to you. Sal and Gail Stingo
