James Butler Obituary

James Edward Butler
September 6, 2025
James E. Butler, 77, of Branford, returned to be with his cherished wife in eternal rest on September 6, 2025. Born in New Haven on February 24, 1948, a son of the late James H. and Eleanor (Conner) Butler. Survived by his loving sons Jim (Lisa) Butler and Chris Butler; grandchildren Jacob, Caylee, Amelia, and Sarah; sister Mary E. (Stewart) Numa; brother John P. (Lori) Butler; sisters-in-law Helen Butler and Leigh (William) Alogna Duff; and devoted grand-dogs Rocky and Finley. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Linda (Alogna) Butler and brother Charles B. Butler.
A graduate of West Haven High School and the University of New Haven, Jim was a skilled auto mechanic, pivoting to a Telecomm Engineering career with SNET which spanned 37 years. He was an active member of the AT&T Pioneers volunteer organization. Energetic throughout his retirement years, Jim followed in his father's footsteps and helped people with their income taxes as a tax preparer at H&R Block. Jim was previously an active member of the St. Louis Home School Association. He continued his civic and community service through the decades as a member of the West Haven Yacht Club, the Annawon Lodge No. 115 AF & AM, and serving on the Board of Directors at Harbour Village, where he enjoyed living for the past 15 years, and where he was able to continue living despite some health related challenges, thanks to his much-appreciated caregivers Deborah and Christina from Home Instead.
Jim will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Rocky, Finley, and all the dogs of Harbour Village, however, will miss the endless flow of cookies they would receive, so please keep them in mind over the coming weeks.
Arrangements were entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green, 662 Savin Avenue, West Haven, CT. Calling hours will be held Thursday evening, September 11, 2025, from four to seven o'clock. On Friday morning at ten o'clock, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John Bosco Parish, St. Mary's Church, 731 Main Street, Branford, CT. Interment will remain private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, https://www.branford-ct.gov/173/Donation or 749 E. Main Street, Branford, CT 06405.

Sorry for your loss.

I always enjoyed Jim's company and humor at the SNET lunches. Many of our fellow SNET employees have passed on. I believe we will meet again in Paradise and tears will never fall again.
