Joe McGarry Memoriam

MEMORIAL CELEBRATION A memorial celebration, with military honors, will be held for Joe and Ruth McGarry on June 8, 2024 at 10 AM at Middletown Veteran's Cemetery, 317 Bow Ln, Middletown. Friends and family will then gather at 12 Noon at App's Restaurant, 283 Captain Thomas Blvd, West Haven. Joe and Ruth raised the 8 of us in Milford. After serving in Korea, and working as a ticket taker on the New Haven Railroad, Dad owned and operated one of the world's last independent drug stores, Walsh's Pharmacy of Devon, and did so 24/7/365 for over 40 years. When not holding down the fort or shuttling us around the country for soccer or swimming, Mom was active in the St. Agnes parish as a Eucharistic Minister, visited with seniors at local nursing homes, and participated in the St. Agnes choir. Mom and Dad left Milford for Stuart, FL back in 1990. As they loved road-tripping and spending time with family, they would often "just show up" at your doorstep. And they had many a doorstep to show up on, leaving behind Matthew and his wife Carolyn, Ellen and her husband Tom Coughlin, Donald and his wife Nacole, Maura and her husband Khaled Abu-Sitteh, Courtney and her husband Coley McMenamin, and sons Mike, John, and Chris. They have also been "blessed," as "Nan" put it, with nineteen grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, all of whom they loved with great abandon. In addition to the children, Joe is survived by his sister, Patricia of Hamden and Ruth is survived by her sister Paula and her husband David Rose of Woolwich, ME. Not a moment passes when they are not in our thoughts, and we are certain that they continue of watch over us and all that we do. We love and miss them terribly.
