A great friend, to many, who lived his life as an example of how Jesus Christ would want us to, joined Him in heaven, one year ago. Yes, you are missed, but you earned your reward for all the good you did, for all of us. Happy New Year! You will never be forgotten. George

I knew Jack as a colleague at Quinnipiac from 2001 until his retirement. I have fond memories of many conversations with him and greatly valued his experience, intelligence, and his irrepressible sense of humor. I have thought of him often since his retirement and continue to draw upon advice he shared. I am very sorry to learn of his passing.

Dear Lisa and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Jack and I and our Quinnipiac family shared many good times and Jack was truly respected and loved by all. He was a mentor to me in many ways, mostly related to how to care for and love those in need, whatever need that might have been from lifting one's spirit to providing a helping hand. He also set the highest example of what it meant to love family and be a devoted husband and Dad. We spoke often of our families and of Christ's love and compassion in our lives. His faith was strong and helped me in my spiritual journey. It was that spirit in Jack that I loved so dearly. Always a feisty competitor, I loved our golf games and golf trips to the Cape where he was always the life of the gathering and loved by Olga, Serge and my brother and laws. I am saddened by Jack's passing but I am happy and greatful I had the opportunity to have been his friend and to have shared many years of friendship with him. It is funny, there are not many friends that are close enough to have shouting matches with each other one moment and the next be hugging them because you love and respect them. Those are true friendships and we had that. Whenever I think of Jack my heart and soul will be pleased and I will appreciate my good fortune that he was my friend and added much to my life.
Peace be with you,
Don

To the Leary Family:

Jack Leary was a truly great and inspiring person. He was my camp counsellor at Erich Day Camp on Kelsey Island in Branford. Jack was a role model to all campers and hero to me. Our relationship continued through my years at Hopkins, our mutual affection for Ed Brown and as colleagues in the practice of law. He was a tough and zealous client advocate, always a smart and well-prepared lawyer who conduced himself with the superior ethics and respect for his clients, adversaries and the Court. Above all, Jack was a compassionate, caring and giving person. When I think of people who have made a difference in this world and leave a legacy for all of us to follow, Jack Leary is a leader.

May you cherished memories give you comfort at this time.

So sorry for your loss, with trust in Gods judgement and the promise of peace beyond we carry on. Jack was one of the best in East Haven's community and will be missed. I remember many "talks' and honestly never agreed on much but always remained friends.

Steve Gruber

January 7, 2018

Mr. Leary was one of my professors at Quinnipiac. During the course of our friendship/mentorship we became close and told me to start calling him "Jack" rather than "Professor".

For some reason he took interest in me---asking my opinions about classes, my interests, what I wanted to do with my life, etc. I may have been a "college kid" but he treated me like a man and valued the chats that we had.

He told me several times about his respect for his faith and how much he loved his wife and family.

He wrote me an email once when I sent a photo of my girlfriend at the time and now wife. In part it said: "You have found the secret to life find someone who makes you smile, especially when she's so much cuter than you." He was 100% right.

I'm so lucky than I crossed paths with Jack, that he made the effort to know me and make me a better man. While we have lost a great person, I'm confident his spirit will live inside many people for a long time.

Dad, you were an amazing person, father, grandfather and friend. You always put everybody else first, including all four kids. You always did the right thing, even if it wasn't the most popular. You loved being with mom, and all four kids. From Transportation Day,trolley museum, ball games, Vermont and Cape Cod, you enjoyed every minute because it was family time. I think the single thing I will never forget is don't put your golf bag down on the green. Good times. You lived your life with these three things in mind (and in this order) faith, family and community. You never cheated any of these. You experienced the death of a baby brother, parents, a daughter, had health issues and yet with each of these things your faith became stronger and stronger when most people would turn their head and give up. Thank you for all the life lessons, for the pats on the back when I did good, a good scolding when I needed to get back on track. I, along with Brian, Kathleen and Maureen have one thing in that nobody else has and we can be quite proud of. We had you as a dad. Next time mom is at the beach and the waves come crashing in, she will hear the whisper of that Momauguin boy that later became Lisa Leary's Husband, a title you cherished. Love you. Big Mike

Uncle Jack. Thank you for your infectious optimism, temperament, and positivity. Elizabeth and I were just reminiscing about your visits to 839 Pequot and how genuine you and Lisa always were and truly interested in all that was going on in our lives. Your selfless service to family, friends, community, and country is something we will continue to try and emulate. As they say in the military, permission granted to stand down. Your legacy is Team Leary and all who you touched. You coached us well to carry on in your likeness. Love you Uncle Jack.

Dear Lisa, Kathleen, Brian & Mike,
Jack was an inspiration to all of us, all of the time. His Christian values nevere wavered one bit, as did his love for his family. I loved this man, and he lived every day of his life, as God wanted him to. I say to all of you, plus Steve, Jack leaves you with the responsibility and challenge of passing on the Christian gifts and values he gave to you, to your children.
I could easily relate to him because of our Jesuit traditons, service to God via the K of C, and total devotion to our Mother Church. Most of all, we both recognized that our purpose on earth was to know love and serve God.
In memory of this great man, I simply say always to love him and let's just pass his way of living on to our descendants.

Thanks Jack.......Your Pal George

Dear Lisa & Family:
Jack and I were classmates at Hopkins in the mid-50's. I remember him as very personable and full of fun! I've spent most of my life away from the New Haven area so only saw him occasionally at Hopkins reunions and the twice yearly class luncheons. He had a good life with much success. What stands out in my mind is that he made the most of his abilities, which were considerable. He will be sorely missed.

To Lisa and family - Jack was one of those guys who saw a need and responded. Indeed, in retrospect, his life fulfilled the Jesuit Tradition of service to others. Although, I first met Jack in 2008, as a member of the RWA RPB board, I knew him through a distinguished Fairfield classmate, and dear friend, Joe Flynn. Jack was an indefatigable spirit who endured challenges. I am grateful that our paths crossed, on this Journey. May Jack's love for you comfort you in the days and weeks ahead.Sincerely
