Just looking over these remembrances, especially from Ralph and Kevin, I´m brought back to those days from `64 through `68 at Notre Dame.
The pick up football games at Edgewood Park and the B ball games watchingKevin play stand out.
John was a good friend and, incidentally, one of the best writers I´ve ever known.

John was my college roommate, best man at my wedding and Godfather to my oldest son. He was one of the kindest, intelligent and trustworthy friends one could have. He will be missed by me, my wife and my son. John took his role very seriously as Godfather to my son and always wrote to him . Good bless you John, rest in peace.

To John´s family and friends,
John and I had pizza together with other friends some 40 years ago in New Haven. Last time I saw him. Years have flown by and even just recently I thought of trying to locate him on the web. I missed my chance. My bad.
So John, I broke your collarbone playing one on one tackle football. I also recall, accidentally, almost poking out your one good eye. Your Dad rightfully gave me a lecture. Not sure how, but our friendship lasted. You were a forgiving friend. As freshmen in high school, we were both small, and being friends often sat next to one another and were embarrassingly dubbed "the mouseketeers" by a teacher/coach that had less maturity than we did at 13. We remained friends in spite of the teasing. And you were there for me John, when a bully tried to intimidate me. I still can see you lashing out with voice, legs, and fists, defending me. Though smaller, you were much braver. And you were the one to lend me considerable money for crowns on my front teeth...money I never fully paid back. And I chuckle thinking of our summer of `74 when the East Coast was going through a recession. There were few jobs. So we started a painting company along with Jim Sugrue, later, tongue in cheek, to be called "Ace". "Ace sets the pace". Our first job, written into the contract, sort of jokingly, was payment of all the Coca-Cola we could drink. After numerous spills and errors delayed progress and extended completion from days to weeks, the frustrated house owners gave us notice: "NO MORE COKE!"
From "Risk" games, to pick up football, to tennis matches, to philosophizing and contemplating the universe, to water skiing with Pete Cammarano and others...we had a great time together, didn´t we?
John, I like to think that you are somewhere out there, in spirit with Jim, having a good laugh together.
John Margoles...highly intelligent, humorous, hardworking, brave, talented. And a great friend. Thanks!
