John J. "Jack" Mendillo, MD

John "Jack" Joseph Mendillo, MD, of Branford, passed peacefully April 2, 2023. Born 103 years ago on September 25,1919 to the late James V. Mendillo DDS and Margaret C. Mendillo. He was predeceased in 2020 by his wife of 75 years, Georgine H. Mendillo (96), of Westbury, L.I., NY. He is survived by his son James H. Mendillo DMD (Roberta), daughters Pamela M. Mathews (Ray), Nancy M. Dorsey (Peter) and Amy M. Mastrangelo (Donal).
Jack was a graduate of Hamden High School, Yale College, Columbia Medical School and the University of Pennsylvania Graduate Medical School. Dr. Mendillo served as a Captain in the Army Air Corps and Lieutenant Commander in the United States Coast Guard.
Returning home from the services, he joined into surgical practice with his uncle, A.J. Mendillo, MD. After 30 plus years performing general and thoracic surgery, he and Georgine (GiGi) retired from Harbour Village to Naples, Florida. Twenty seven years later, they moved back to Branford to be closer to family.

Enjoyed visiting with Jack at Yale Sr Reunions over the years. I have a nice photo of Jack and my dad, Adrian Offinger (both Yale Class of 1942), taken at one of the Sr. Reunions.
