Stephen Mendillo
Stephen Wetmore Mendillo, age 84, passed away September 3, 2025, at his home in Los Angeles, California. He is the son of the late Dr. John C. and Emily Wetmore Mendillo, of New Haven, CT. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Richards Mendillo; his children, Stephen Tag Mendillo (Beth) of Westport, CT, Kirsten Mendillo Page, of Hamden, CT, two step-children, Gabrielle Ebert and Alex Ebert, both of Los Angeles, CA ; two grandchildren, Jack and Avery Mendilloa brother, James R. Mendillo (Victoria), Columbia, Il; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Stephen graduated from Colorado College in 1970, and Yale Drama School in 1973, where he received his MFA degree and was awarded the Oliver Thorndike award for best actor. He continued his acting profession up until his death, appearing in numerous Broadway (Our Town, Guys and Dolls, Orpheus Descending, Wild Honey among others), off-Broadway shows, Nationwide regional theaters, as well as film (Slapshot, Eight Men Out, Broadcast News, Lone Star) and television. He was a member of the Actor's Studio, in addition, he was long standing hockey fan and player, (Colorado College, Norwalk Home Oil) and an avid tennis player from his early years at Laurel Beach, Milford CT, to his last years at the LA Tennis Club.
Funeral arrangements are private; a Memorial will be planned at a later date.
