JOSEPH MORRELL Obituary

MORRELL, JOSEPH F. SR. Joseph F. Morrell Sr., 76, of West Haven passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2014 with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Maryann Nuzzo Morrell. Born in New Haven on June 7, 1938, Joe was a son of the late Irving and Edna Cronoque Morrell and the youngest of eleven. In addition to his wife of 54 years, Joe is the loving father of Shawn (William) Norton and Joseph Jr. (Jackie Violano) and proud grandfather of Christopher, Taylor and Jeffrey Norton and Jocelynne and Jolie Morrell all of West Haven. He is also survived by sisters Shirley Klemenz, Edna (Walter) Heery, brother Edward (Joyce) Morrell, brother in law Clifford McBride and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Joe retired from Asbestos Workers Local 33, where he was an insulator for over 30 years. He was interested in antiques, coins and baseball memorabilia. A devoted sports fan, Joe was a lifelong Yankee fan, and enjoyed watching Flyers’ hockey and Dallas Cowboys’ football. One of his great pleasures was going to West Haven High School Blue Devil hockey games. Joe’s proudest accomplishment was serving as coach and commissioner at the Shore Haven Jr. Baseball League for 43 years. This year, on his birthday, June 7, the Shore Haven Sports Complex on Contact Drive was named in his honor. Visitation will take place Thursday from 4 to 8pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. On Friday morning, Joe’s life will be celebrated at the funeral home at 10 o’clock with prayers, songs and remembrances. Committal prayers will follow at the Joseph F. Morrell Sr. Sports Complex on Contact Drive, West Haven. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Shore Haven Junior Baseball League, Joseph F. I met Joe about 45 years ago when we were both in the construction trades. We hit it off right away, in spite of me not being a Yankee fan. After not seeing him for many years, we became close friends again about 15yrs ago. I know how close he was to Maryann, his son and daughter and their wonderful families. The Morrell's and Nortons have lost not only a father and grandfather, but we have all lost a "good guy". Don't worry guys "Pa" is at peace now.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers ....

"The Broken Chain"

We little knew that day,
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death, we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you.
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide.
And although we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
