Linda Amarante Obituary

Linda Amarante
December 21, 2023
Linda Amarante, 85 of East Haven, formerly of Middlebury, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on December 21, 2023. The loving wife of the late Matthew C. Amarante, Jr., Mrs. Amarante was born in New Haven on January 26, 1938, to the late Paul and Ruth Jacobson. She was a graduate of East Haven High School and was the Class of 1955 Valedictorian. After high school, Linda graduated from New Haven State Teachers College (S.C.S.U) in 1959 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She furthered her education and earned two Master's Degrees and a Sixth Year Degree in Administration, and maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her entire education.
Mrs. Amarante was a staple in the East Haven School System; a beloved teacher until 1987 when she was appointed as the Elementary Reading and Language Arts Coordinator for the district, and in 1991 was appointed as the Principal of the Robert Carbone Elementary School, a position she held proudly for 10 years, retiring in 2001.
Being very active even in retirement, she loved to read, travel, line dance, practice Tai-Chi, play Mahjong, golf, and enjoy the theatre. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and her friends. She enjoyed watching sports, whether it was her grandchildren's sporting events or the UCONN Girls basketball team. She will be remembered as a very kind woman who always thought of everyone.
Mrs. Amarante is survived by her loving son Stephen (Christina) and the late Peter (Perie) Amarante, her brother Paul Jacobson; her grandchildren Chrisopher, Samantha, Matthew P., Emily, Matthew C. III, Avery, and Hanna Amarante, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Amarante's funeral procession will leave East Haven Memorial Funeral Home THURSDAY, December 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish - St. Vincent DePaul Church, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven. Mrs. Amarante will be laid to rest next to her husband immediately after Mass at All Saints Cemetery, Middletown Ave, North Haven. How very sorry I am to just learn of Linda's passing. Linda was an exemplary role model and friend to me as I began my first principalship. Such a kind, gracious lady and true professional. We stayed in touch (too infrequently) over
over the decades,
but I know how she
treasured her family above all. Truly Linda's was a life well lived.

Linda was lovely and kind as we worked at the Middle School. We all appreciated that. I'll always remember her sweet smile.

I met Linda well into her retirement and was blessed to know her. A true educator with many wise words of advice and wonderful memories of her days in the classroom and as an administrator. Her family was always foremost in her mind although with so many activities it was hard to believe that this little lady in stature could manage to do so much. Her family was truly blessed with such a great role model of resilience and stamina. I was honored to have known her.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Amarante and Jacobson family for the loss of their mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Linda was exemplary in every role.

Throughout the past 22 years, we shared great joys, tragic loss, and wonderful grandchildren. Our relationship was always a special blend of family and friendship that holds her close in our hearts.

A very special lady in so many ways. she was well respected. generous, kind, wise, to name a few. We say goodbye for now; rest in the peace of Christ, Linda; you shall be greatly missed.

Deepest sympathy extended to the Amarante and Jacobson families, along with regrets that I may actually no longer be part of the family 'neighborhood' there in person. Many fond memories of Aunt Linda, as I'm sure the whole family shares something of your sorrow, Stephen. The peace of Christmas wished you all.
