LUCY SQUIRES Obituary

SQUIRES, LUCY VITA Lucy Vita Squires, 95, of Hamden, Connecticut, died on Monday, February 16, 2015. Born Lucia Vita on December 13, 1919, in Teramo, Abruzzi, Italy, she was the daughter of Luigia and Ladislavo Vita. Lucy moved with her family to the United States at a young age where they settled in New Haven, Connecticut. She worked for many years at Onofrio’s Market on Lombard Street in New Haven. Lucy loved traveling, going out to eat with family and friends and a nice glass of Chardonnay. Most recently, she enjoyed living at Atria Larson Place in Hamden where she made many new friends. Lucy is predeceased by her husbands Anthony Civitello and Robert Squires, her sisters Phyllis Caruso and Mary Venturo and her brothers Joseph Vita and George Selmont. She is survived by several nieces and nephews as well as grand-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, please remember Lucy in your personal charitable giving. www.northhavenfuneral.com

Aunt Lucy was married to my mother's (Sue Civitello-Bello)brother, Uncle Tony. We were so sad to read about her passing. Aunt Lucy and my mother Sue were pretty close and she used to drive out to visit my parents in West Haven for visits and they would call each other often. Even after my parents passed away , Aunt Lucy remained a very special part of our family and we all always looked forward to seeing her at our family events. She will be missed very much!

We were very sad to hear of Great Aunt Lucy's passing. Many happy and funny memories of her at family events, her zest for life, "tell it like it is" way, and stories will be very much missed and always admired!

I was extremely saddened to hear of Lucy's passing. I had the pleasure of meeting Lucy when my mother Dottie ,moved to Atria Larson Place. Lucy warmly welcomed my mother to Atria, sat with her at meals and became a good friend of hers. Lucy's wit and good sense of humor had a way of making everyone love her. When I visited my Mom, Lucy always got a hug and kiss goodbye also , along with any goodies I brought . You couldn't help but love Lucy! She was funny, warm, and caring for her friends at Atria. Everyone adored her and she will always live fondly in my heart and memories. My deepest sympathy to her family. Roberta Sawicki
