Malachi Peters Obituary

Malachi "Max" M. Peters
December 16, 2022
Malachi "Max" M. Peters of Branford died suddenly in New Haven Friday December 16, 2022. Max was born May 16, 1997 in New Haven the son of Theodore G. "Ted" Peters, III and Leslie Hopkins Peters of Branford. He was a 2016 graduate of Branford High School where he performed in the choir and theater productions. He was a 2020 graduate of Dean College in Franklin, MA, where he continued in his love of theater and the performing arts. Max experienced great growth academically, theatrically, and personally at Dean College. He loved his friends (students and professors) that he made at Dean, and continued to enjoy the friendships in the years after graduating from the college. For almost two years, Max had been working as a teacher and counselor at The Grove School in Madison, where he was much admired and respected by his students and faculty. He loved his job at the Grove School and cared very much for the faculty and the students for whom he served. Max was a beacon of light and he lit up any room he walked into with his charisma and charm. He kept a host of friends from Branford High School, Dean College and The Owl Shop in New Haven. Words cannot do justice to explain how much he will be missed by all. Besides Ted and Leslie, Max is survived by his brother Theodore G. Peters, IV of Austin, TX; his maternal grandmother Mary E. Peters of East Haven and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Theodore G. Peters, Jr., and Ann and Max Hopkins.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours Tuesday evening from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and may attend a funeral service Wednesday morning at 11:00 in Trinity Episcopal Church on-the-green,1109 Main Street, Branford. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to: The Max Peters Scholarship Fund at Dean College, c/o the funeral home. Max was the guy you hoped would be in the ED office (the place to seek staff support) when you were sad, angry, and especially happy. He was a great guy - one of the best at his job, and one of the most well-liked. He was someone you told everything to because he had the unique ability to comfort those around him. Max lit up every room he walked into, and not a day will go by where he is not in our thoughts. Max, we miss you endlessly, and thank you for making all of our lives brighter with your incredible sense of humor, life lessons, sarcasm, and radiant smile.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

As a professor, your greatest hope is that you will inspire and make a positive impression on your students; Max was one of those students who inspired and made an impression on me. He was always so kind and respectful, and I have a visual image of him smiling while I played a fellow student's song submission of "Killer Queen" during the conclusion of our poetry unit. I also remember him recommending to me the movie, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Not every student treats their instructor like a person. Max did. I am so sorry for your loss. Leslie, Ted, and Teddy,
Please know how much my children and I adored Max when they were together at Branford Day Care. Max and my daughter were very close there. Within my family, we all agreed (when they were three) that we'd be happy if they ended up together when grown. He was such a sweetheart, much like all of you.
Please know how deeply sorry we are for your loss of Max. We send you strength, love, and prayers. What magic he left on this world in such a short time.
May his love remain in your hearts forever. He and you remain in ours. May his memory be for a blessing.

Leslie, I am not sure if you remember me but I worked at Pine Orchard childcare center and was Max's teacher when he was 3. I am heartbroken for your loss. I remember what a sweet kid he was. I've worked with kids for a long time and don't remember all of them but Max is one of the few that left an imprint in my heart.
Sending thoughts, prayers and hugs to you and your family

Max was easily my favorite staff on campus. He was the first staff I felt comfortable around and I can't thank him enough for every piece of advice he gave me, every story he shared, and every inside joke we had. He always made me laugh when I needed it most. Thank you Max for everything.

Max was truly a one of a kind person. All of my favorite memories are of him. He had a way of bringing everyone together and he is still doing that. I´ll miss his smile and goofy laugh. Sincerest condolences to the Peters family.
