Mark Duda Obituary

Mark Antony Duda
Mark Antony Duda, 63, of New Haven, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024 at his home. He was born in New Haven on March 25, 1961. After graduating from Guilford High School in 1979, he attended Southern Connecticut State University. He then became the manager of Finast Supermarket in Deep River. At the age of 25, his passion for cooking inspired him to open up his own restaurant Ye Olde Corner Store in Deep River, which became a local staple for breakfast in the community for many years. Mark had coffee mugs inscribed with the name of his regular customers. To say the least, there were many. He was known as "King Coffee" and for flipping his butcher knife into the air, along with juggling plates, as he prepared to cook breakfast. The juggling act was free, the food wasn't. Many regulars didn't even bother placing their orders, as the breakfast was delivered within minutes of them arriving. Katharine Hepburn along with other celebrities would often pop in for his "famous home fries." Mark then embarked on a new career as a telecommunication installer for SNET/SBC. He was repeatedly recognized as a top performer and known to his coworkers by his "beyond the call" work ethic, installing internet and phone service to the Shoreline of Connecticut. His love for sports was steadfast and he was active in the softball community for many years at Bittner Park in Guilford. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Jets and Boston Red Sox. His love for pets was immeasurable, as he currently had his own pet business. He was the son of Frances (Czaplicki) Duda and the late Theodore Duda. Loving father of Adam Duda, Alex Duda and Heather Wilson-Duda. Brother of Matthew (Kelly) Duda, Uncle of Ryan and Rachel Duda, and dog Rascal. The family would like to thank Hugh Dahill for his lifelong friendship. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, September 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church-Blessed Michael McGivney Parish, 9 Eld Street in New Haven. Burial will be private. At the family's request, kindly omit flowers and make memorial contributions to wheretheloveis.org or halfwayhomerescue.simdif.com.
