Martin Mikos Obituary

MIKOS, MARTIN J. "BUTCH" Martin J. "Butch" Mikos, age 81, entered into eternal rest on February 23, 2012 surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. He was the devoted and beloved husband of 57 years to Denyse (Cadoret) Mikos and a lifelong member of the Derby community. Butch was born on November 7, 1930 to the late Zygmunt and Mary (Raslavsky) Mikos. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Sikorsky Aircraft Finance Department after 36 years of service. Martin also served as president of the Polish Young Men's Club in Derby for more than 25 years. In his youth he was an avid sportsman, playing duckpin bowling and fast-pitch softball. In addition to his wife and his favorite cat, Patches, he is survived by his loving children, Martin J. Mikos, Jr. and his wife Joan of Ansonia, David Mikos and his fianc Beatrice Cohen of Derby, Denyse Cota and her husband Andrew of Ansonia, and son-in-law Peter Corkery of Milford. He is the adoring grandfather, "Papa Butch," of seven grandchildren, Peter and Hayley Corkery, Andrew and Daniel Cota, Martin Mikos, III, Michelle Evanich, and Virginie Cohen. He also leaves his sister, Helen Sadlik of Derby and his brother, Henry Mikos and his wife Harriet of Shelton, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving daughter, Marybeth Corkery. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby. On Tuesday his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Church in Derby. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. Condolences may be made to Butch's family at www.adzimafh.com
