Matthew Zuckerman Obituary

Matthew Eliot Zuckerman
Matthew Eliot Zuckerman, 72, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024. He was the cherished father of Hallie and Gabriel Zuckerman, and father-in-law to Gabriel's wife, Mackenzie. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne, who passed away in March of this year.
Born on March 22,1952, Matthew was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and UConn basketball. His love for sports was contagious, and he was known for his passionate support, never missing a game when his teams played. Whether he was cheering from the stands or from the comfort of his home, his loyalty never wavered.
Matthew will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, and his dedication to his family and friends. Though he has left this world, the memories and joy he brought to others will live on.
Funeral services will be held at B'nai Jacob Memorial Park, 200 Wintergreen Ave., New Haven, on Wednesday morning, Oct. 30th, at 10:00 AM. The Robert E. Shure & Son Funeral Home, New Haven, is in care of arrangements. Shiva will be observed at the family's home in Milford, following the service until 8:30pm; and Thursday and Friday, 12 noon until 5 PM. Matthew, we miss you brother. A big personality and a wonderful person. I just found a few never deleted voice messages from Matt on my cell phone this weekend that I'm going to hang onto for whenever I need a smile!

To Hallie and Gabriel, I am so sorry for your loss. I played softball with your dad for several years and will always remember the great times and the laughs we had together. I can still hear that laugh. He was a great man. May he RIP!

We started our educational journey together in kindergarten at Harbor School. Twelve years later we moved on to another phase of our lives. I remember a sweet child who grew in to a sweet caring man. Your imprint on the world will be cherished. Rest well.

So sorry to the family for your loss. I do have a memory to share.

Matt and I were apparently in Miss Sheedy´s 3rd grade classroom so she made us stand in front of the class and hum. We were so embarrassed.

My sincere condolences to Hallie and Gabe and his older brothersMurray and Philip and especially to his nephews Jeremy and Andy. I have known Matt/Bear since early childhood. In college I used to bring girls from Southern to parties at UConn. One time he parked my car illegally overnight and my dad got the ticket!!! My house was his "safe" place. He had an audience to listen to his steady stream of off color jokes and he was loved by my family!!!
Except for the marriage of his son, 2024 brought so much pain physically and emotionally. Rest in peace now.

My condolences to Hallie and Gabriel. I met your dad 54 years ago as one of my first friends in my freshmen dorm at UConn. We both loved the Huskies, Yankees, and Giants so we were kindred souls. I was literally on my way from Bristol to Woodmont to see him on Thursday. I received word he passed when I reached Wallingford and was crushed. I just missed seeing him one last time. I feel so bad about all he went through in 2024. Hopefully now he is in a better place. May his memory be eternal. RIP Bear
