Melvin Wells Obituary
Melvin Ignatious Wells, Jr. departed this life on Saturday, March 2, 2019. Melvin was born on June 3, 1963 to the late Melvin I. Wells, Sr. and Delois Ann Wells in Brooklyn, NY. He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Pascascio and brother, Tyler Wells. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Lisa Gethers-Wells and his five children: Kymberlie Brooks, Domonique Pascascio, Dr. Alexandria Wells, Melvin Wells III, and Jaiden Patrick. His family includes a combination of two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends to cherish his memories. Melvin was retired from the department of corrections and has an illustrious football coaching career that spanned over 30 years. He will be sorely missed by his many family, friends, and the student-athletes he touched.
A Celebration of Melvin's life will be held on Friday March 8, 2019 at Community Baptist Church, 143 Shelton Avenue New Haven at 11 a.m. Viewing in Church from 9-11 a.m. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com

As the Owls football manager at SCSU, I had the privilege of knowing Melvin wells. He was a great player and leader on and off the field. Melvin was a loyal friend. He and Travis Tucker were like the dynamic duo. I remember when the team surprised me with a plane ticket to go to our game against CalPoly, Melvin and Travis drove me home in the infamous red Comaro to get stuff for the trip. Back then having a female working in such a position with a football team was unheard of....Melvin always had my back. He was a gentle giant...a true gentleman. I think of him often. God bless him. Can't believe it has been a year my friend that you were taken from us...always felt you were invincible...Tanglewood ain't been the same. Not a day goes by I don't think of you...still expect see'n you out in the driveway doing a brake job or some other project...mostly for others. I especially miss our conversations and the insight you were so adapt at sharing. So big man...Your with God now and I am sure the conversations are way more interesting...always know I am grateful to have been your friend.

A genuine tragedy, the loss of a wonderful man. I coached with Mel and against him and it was certainly better having him on our side. He was a person who "got it". In our last conversation he expressed how proud he was of Mel Jr. and his efforts to become a starting lineman at Curry College. He certainly took pride in everything he accomplished. He will be missed by so many.

I am very sorry to learn of Melvin's passing. I worked with him years ago at Whaley Avenue, DOC. He was always kind, professional, and he really stood out because no matter what calamity was unfolding, he was polite, calm and looked out for everyone. I'm sorry for your loss. Melvin was a gem.

I will always miss smelling Coach before I even saw him in the shop at Vio's. He was a great man, a gentle giant who would sit and talk about life with me. Not just a customer getting jobs printed, but a friend.

My deepest sympathy to Melvin's family and all those student athletes that he inspired. I was the football manager at Southern Connecticut State University while Melvin was a football player. He always gave his all on the field. He motivated others. The thing that made him different was his heart. He was a caring and kind gentleman. Gone to early but he has touched more lives than anybody will ever know. God love him and welcome him home.
