Michael Bencivengo Obituary

Michael L. Bencivengo
May 31, 1942 - February 28, 2022
Michael Bencivengo, 79, of North Branford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 28, 2022 after fighting a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. Michael was born on May 31, 1942 to the late Angelo Charles Bencivengo and Anna (Costello) Bencivengo in New Haven. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Linda (Mancini) Bencivengo and his three loving children, Laurie Ann (John) Letizia, Michael (Michelle) Bencivengo and Jeffrey (Jaclyn) Bencivengo. He also leaves behind his seven cherished grandchildren who were his pride and joy, John Carlo, Luke Michael, Addison Faith Letizia, Michael Christian, Matthew Charles Bencivengo and Ethan Michael and Ava Marie Bencivengo. Michael is also survived by his brother Frank (Dianne) Bencivengo and an extensive family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his brother Nicholas (Sandra) Bencivengo. Michael loved his country and honorably served in the Connecticut National Guard where he attained rank of Sergeant. He began his 35 year career with SNET as a payphone coin collector where he was quickly recognized as a dedicated employee with an exceptional work ethic and acute problem solving abilities. He advanced to hold multiple cross functional roles before retiring in 1999 as Senior Director of National and International Network Services. He was unilaterally revered by his colleagues in all positions he held throughout his career. In addition to his many achievements, Michael was often recognized as an individual who would go above and beyond. His innate willingness to help others was his moral compass in work and in life. Michael was an avid New York Yankees fan but his true enjoyment came from watching and supporting his grandchildren participate in their sporting events, activities and endeavors. With his infinite wisdom and guidance, he was everyone's go to person. He led by example and was the epitome of integrity, humility and overall goodness. Michael will be remembered most for his endless love and devotion to his family. His generous and selfless nature was a guiding light that shined into the hearts of his family and friends along with anyone who came to know him. His legacy extends beyond his family, his was a life well lived and we are all better for it.
His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte 80), East Haven Friday morning at 9:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church, 5 Hillhouse Ave. New Haven at 10:00. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Unfortunately, I did not have the privilege of meeting Mr. Bencivengo, but I had the privilege to know his daughter, Laurie Ann, and her children. Teaching JC and Luke were truly highlights of my career. My prayers go with the family during this most difficult time. May Mr. Bencivengo rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear of Mike´s death. Mike led and inspired a team of totally dedicated people charged with negotiating agreements with SNET´s largest competitors who were also our largest customers. An old incredibly delicate negotiation ; being tough with competitors while not angering our customer. Only Mike, with his technical knowledge, his cool demeanor and his total obvious integrity could have pulled it off.
We shared a lot of laughs and a lot of tears in those days and I am sad to hear of his passing.
My heart felt condolences.
