Nicholas Donofrio
Nicholas Anthony Donofrio, 20, of Madison, CT passed away suddenly on August 26, 2023. Born on December 23, 2002, in New Haven, CT, he was the son of Louis A. Donofrio and Dina M. (Barra) Donofrio.
Nick is a 2021 graduate of Daniel Hand High School in Madison, CT. He went on to attend the University of New England his freshman year before transferring to the University of South Carolina as a sophomore where he was pursuing a degree in Exercise Science. Sports were always a huge part of his life and Nick was a gifted athlete. He played soccer and baseball for many years but truly loved and focused on basketball. He was a key member of the team at Daniel Hand and fulfilled his dream to play collegiate basketball when he went on to play at UNE. Nick was a loving son, brother, grandson and friend. He was an intelligent, funny, sincere and compassionate person who worried about others. Nick was a deep thinker, and his insights were often beyond his years. Nick loved working out, listening to music, and being with his friends. He was a regular visitor to Chipotle and was known for making very large sandwiches. Nick was an active member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity at the University of South Carolina. He loved USC and was proud to be a Gamecock. Nick gave the best hugs and had such a bright light about him. He was truly a special person who had a tremendous impact on countless people.
Nick is predeceased by his grandmothers, Kathryn St. Peter and Jeanette Donofrio, his grandfather, James Barra, and his uncle, Chris McNulty. Nicholas will be greatly missed by his parents, Louis A. Donofrio and Dina M. Donofrio as well as his older brother, Louis J. Donofrio, all of Madison, CT. He will also be missed by his grandma, Teddi Barra of Branford and his papa, Louis T. Donofrio of Branford, as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 4 pm until 7 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, located at 825 Boston Post Rd, Madison, CT. A Funeral Mass will be held for Nicholas on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Margaret's Catholic Church, located at 24 Academy St., Madison, CT. Burial will immediately follow mass at St. Agnes Cemetery, located on East Main Street, Branford, CT.
