Peter Everson Obituary

Everson, Peter
Peter O. Everson passed away peacefully at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford on November 30, 2018, the day after he turned 90 years old. The world lost two great men that day, President George H.W. Bush and Peter O. Everson.
Peter was born 20 minutes before his twin sister Ann M. Everson in Brooklyn, NY, on Nov. 29, 1928, the original Thanksgiving.
During his sophomore year at the Friends School in Brooklyn, he was asked to attend college at the University of Chicago under a program that in 1944 allowed 15 year olds to earn a Bachelor's degree by age 18. During the Korean War, he enlisted in the Army and went to Officer Candidate School in 1951. In 1953, First Lt. Everson of the 27th Infantry Division, Heavy Mortar Co. was serving as Platoon Leader when he was awarded a Bronze Star for his leadership and bravery. He was the son of Alfred H. Everson, an engineer, and Rachel Higgins Everson, whose father, Charles M. Higgins, founded the Higgins Ink Co. in 1880 in Brooklyn. In 1955, he married Dona Chumasero, the girl next door on Governors Island in Stony Creek, CT where the families spent their summers.
Peter's management and advertising career included working for the Saturday Evening Post, serving as President of Higgins Ink, and launching the blue cornflower on Corningware in 1956. In the early 70s, he was a top manager at the Continental and American Can Companies. His job changes resulted in 17 moves during his married life. An avid sailor, he spent countless hours on Long Island Sound near the family's island home in the Thimbles. His artistic talents included welding sculptures and watercolors.
He is survived by two of his three brothers, John of Punta Gorda, FL and Robert of Edmond, OK; two daughters, Kathryn of Manakin-Sabot, VA and Tracy of Branford, and numerous Everson and Higgins family relatives. A memorial service will held Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Woods in North Branford. Donations may be made to the CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd, Branford, CT 06405.

Dear Tracy, your Dad was a wonderful man. I have fond memories of the dinners we all had together with your parents. Remember the "French" dinner Lisa cooked and served under the tree in the back yard? That was a special moment.
My heart goes out to you.
Love, your "other" Mother,
Jill

With heartfelt sympathy to the Everson family. May fond memories of your loved one be as a soothing blanket over your heart. Please consider Hosea 13:14 and John 6:40. May those words of promise bring you some consolation and a small measure of peace.
