Robert Hajnal Obituary
April 13, 1956 - January 26, 2026
Robert Andrew Hajnal, born April 13, 1956, passed away on Monday morning, January 26, 2026, at Grimes Center in New Haven, CT, after a long illness.
Robert, a lifelong Wallingford resident, UCONN graduate and retired postal worker was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy Hems Hajnal and John R. Hajnal II, both of Wallingford and by his brother John R. Hajnal III.
He leaves behind his brother Charles A. Hajnal, his sister Dorothy M. Hajnal, several nieces and nephews as well as generations of cousins, all cherished.
Robert was well known for his big personality and generous heart. He was passionate about any and all UCONN sports and devoted to his beloved Dodgers, despite their leaving Brooklyn. He loved contemporary and pop music and his love for the Carpenters and their music is legendary.
He was a good man who left us too soon and will be missed.
Services will be held at The Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford on February 2, 2026 at 10 a.m.

I remember talking to Robert at my grandmother Gladys Hems burial in Hamden. We saw Robert as the family historian.
He spent time talking to me and my sisters Lynda and Gail about our mothers side of the family we did not know.
He was kind and animated and I am thankful for that moment with him.
My sincere condolences to his family as I am sure he will be missed.

Never got old( maybe a little), running into Bobby. We went to Lyman Hall, shared the same homeroom for 4 years. Made every morning alive and fun. Travel on Bobby.

To the Family of Robert "Bobby" Hajnal:
I had the great pleasure of going to High School with Robert and graduating with him from LHHS in 1974. He was the most enthusiastic member of our Class and a lifelong archivist of everything LHHS Class of `74. Robert was always a joy to see and I always left our brief encounters feeling uplifted by his Spirit. He will be sorely missed.

I would see Bob, at Mass, Bob had a big heart and was fond of children; you could see his joy in his interaction with a young child, at the 10 a.m. Mass. We graduated, together, in 1974. My most sincere condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in Heavenly Peace.
